Letting domain expire
-
What will happen if I let this domain expire? Will it revert to the wordpress domain?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes every link will be broken and all links will revert to the WordPress.com root blog links. Any person clicking on the domain links will experience a “404” (page not found). The domain name will go up for auction. Getting it back will not be either easy or inexpensive.

Allowing a domain name and domain mapping upgrade to expire creates a nightmare for your readers and you stand to lose the majority of them. All the posts and pages producing “404’s” broken links will have to be re-indexed by the search engines under the wordpress.com root blog URL and this takes time. I do not advise purchasing a domain name and domain mapping upgrade, unless you are serious about continuing to blog over the long term.

You would have a “Server Not Found” error for anyone that tried to click on a link to your expired domain name – they would then have no real way to get to your site – I think it would be much worse than @TT has indicated.
Your content would be safe on the base blog that your expired domain was mapped to, but everyone would have a tough time finding you, both casual visitors and any regular visitors.

G’day to you. I agree that I did not emphasize enough what bad results flow from failing to renew a domain.
