library image use percentage

I do not believe that your calculation of my library image use percentage is correct. Do you have a way of reverifying before I lodge a formal complaint?

  • Hi there. Why do you think the storage calculation is wrong? If you go to the WP-Admin dashboard (http://crashmacduff.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and click on Media ->Library you’ll see exactly how many megabytes of storage you’ve already used. The percentage is calculated off of that. See: https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/#upload-space

If you’re concerned that your media storage is running out too fast, please have a look at your images themselves. I see you upload many images to your blog. Now, if you uploaded high-res images (1500 pixels wide or bigger), that can eat through your storage in record time. You might only be displaying images on your blog at around 500 pixels (which translate to around 100Kb), but the larger images that are actually stored in the media library can exceed 2Mb a piece. To prevent this, always resize images to the actual size your blog will display them before you upload them to the media library.
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/

Also consider that if you’ve edited any images after uploading them, the media library stores both the edited AND the original image (in case you want to undo changes later), which in practice means one image can use up double the normal storage space.

If you don’t think any of that applies to you, please let us know. You can also add “modlook” to the tags area to the right to get a staff member to respond to this thread.

If you are referring to what you find here http://crashmacduff.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php and you do not optimize and resize each image to fit the exact space you intend to use it in, you can use up your free media storage space very quickly.
