Libretto Theme – font color help needed

  • Unknown's avatar

Greetings! I’m seeking help with the re-vamp of my blog, The Third Eve (thirdeve.com). I’ve been with wordpress since 2007 and am now on my fourth major theme change, the others having been retired.

Using Libretto theme, which for the most part is lovely, I notice that if I specify a background image, Libretto foists whatever colors it wants on me, even if I go into cutomize > colors & backgrounds, remove the bg color, choose the font colors, then re-enter the bg. No luck. Furthermore, the titling on articles is gray, which fades into the background. I’d settle for white or a light blue/cyan but am getting no love from the theme.

I have the premium plan so can change some css. If anyone can help me fix this or suggest an alternative, let me know. I guess I could build a static front page and let go of that cool background… :o(

Actually, I’d like to work on some of text options in general. For instance, the quotes option makes the quote text much too large for parenthetical quotes. Since I’ve moved from classic to block style, I’m having a lot of problems formatting–it’s not seamless and simple the way it is with newer blogs. Thanks!

Hello, is anyone out there? Perhaps I could get help centering the WP logo at the bottom of my site, if not help with the headings?

  • Hi there,

    Hello, is anyone out there?

Sorry we weren’t able to get to this request sooner. In the future can you avoid responding to your own support request until a member of staff has responded?

We respond to requests in the order we receive them, and your activity has the effect of moving your request to the “back of the line.” Now that I can see you, we’re happy to help!

When I visit your site now I see a custom background image, so it’s hard for me to confirm what is going on. Can you set a backgound color so we can take a closer look and compare what is shown in the customizer with what is shown on the site?

In my tests on a site under my account, I was able to set the background to the same color as the swatch, so I did not see this issue on my end.

Libretto is getting to be an old theme (in internet years) and was designed long before we ever had a Block editor. Because of this it is starting to show it’s age, and may not be compatible with the latest and greatest that blocks offer. It has basic compatibility, but can have issues as you point out.

With this in mind (and given the effort in redesign) I might actually recommend a new theme that is more compatible with blocks. Any of the “recommended” themes here would have 100% compatibility with the block editor: https://wordpress.com/themes/

One option you may wish to consider is to update to one of our Full Site Editing themes, which allow you to customize your site to a very high degree, no coding needed. Essentially this system uses special themes that are made completely out of blocks, so just like blocks in the editor, it gives you a ton of flexibility and customization well beyond the customizer options you find on classic themes: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/full-site-editing/

For an idea of what you can do with Full Site Editing, you may want to check out a recording or our recent webinar on the subject: https://wordpress.com/webinars/sneak-peek-full-site-editing/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for your comprehensive response. I’ll switch to a different theme before I get too far into Libretto–which look I really love, by the way. Hopefully I can re-create this kind of look using a robust block editor or full site editing.
