Licence plan
-
I have bought a theme online which is compatible with WordPress. I don’t see any option to add a new theme in the appearance section.
What licence do I need to buy, so I am able to use it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

As mentioned on the WordPress.com pricing page, you need to have a WordPress.com Business plan to add “custom themes”
Since you purchased this theme outside of WordPress.com, this is a custom theme and you need to have a WordPress.com Business plan.
To upgrade your site to WordPress.com Business plan, visit this page.

That is quite expensive than premium plan. Building a website for the non-profit organization.
Do I go with wordpress.org then?
-
If WordPress.com Business plan does not seem the right choice for your needs, I am afraid you will have to go with self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org) site.

Hello there @jassi7, If you are on a tight budget and cannot purchase the Business upgrade plan in order to use your custom theme, while finding hosting with a 3rd party webhost and installing the standalone WP software is definitely an option, we also have dozens of free themes available here on WordPressdotcom that might suit your needs. https://wordpress.com/themes/free This means you can entirely host for free here on WordPressdotcom (I’ve been doing that now for 11 years.)
We also have Premium themes that can be purchased separately and are a one-time expense. These themes are licensed for use for the life of your site here on WordPressdotcom. https://wordpress.com/themes/premium
Hope that helps somewhat. Let us know if you have any question about that.

I have already purchased a theme.
So, Do WordPress have any discount for non-profit organizations like religious sites?
-
Hello again, WordPressdotcom does not offer discounts to non-profits, no.
If you have your heart set on using the theme you purchased and do not wish to upgrade to the business plan to use it here on WordPressdotcom, then, as mentioned above, you’ll want to seek 3rd party hosting elsewhere and set up the standalone WP software there.
-
This guide may also assist you with information about moving to a standalone WP site: https://move.wordpress.com/
Once you are set up on your new hosting and have the standalone WP software and your theme installed, for any further questions you may have about using the standalone WP software, you’ll want to check out the documentation and the support forums for that software at https://wordpress.org/support
All the best.
