Like button not staying Liked

I have been having trouble with like buttons for a week or two now, and don’t know what is going on. When I click a like button, the text below it shows that I liked it and so does the button. But most times it keeps making me log in, and it is not showing my picture along side the others most of the time. Also, when I return to a post, it’s not showing I liked it. So I don’t know if bloggers are being notified that I liked or not. Am I the only one having this problem? How so I correct it? Logging in doesn’t help, because it keeps making me do over and over, and still the button doesn’t stay on.

This sounds like odd behaviour.
But most times it keeps making me log in…it is not showing my picture along side the others most of the time.
Do you have more than one WordPress.com account?
Also, can you show a post you’ve liked whereby your image is not showing please?
Lastly, what browser is in use and do you have any security or ad blocking extensions installed?

I just liked this post: https://bookread2day.wordpress.com/2021/11/30/manic-man-jason-werner-and-dr-kelly-bernes/ It should show a picture of my dog, but it doesn’t. If I close the post then return to it again, it does not show that I ever liked it.
I use the Microsoft Edge browser. I have no ad blocking extension or security extension installed.

I’m not showing that you liked that post either. Could you let us know what operating system (and version) you’re currently using as well?
Could you also try using a different browser (Chrome or Firefox) and see if you have the same problem? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

I got a new laptop with Windows 11 Home 64 bit, Version 21H2 in early November..
Ok I did use the Firefox browser and had no problem with the likes. I find it strange that they worked on my Edge browser for a couple of weeks before it stopped. So I guess I have to change to a different browser?

I want to take a moment to reflect on what you said initially here:

Out of curiosity have you set your edge browser to block cookies? On WordPress.com we use a “login cookie” to keep you logged in as you visit various sites, and it’s critical to making sure that things like the like button work correctly.
The fact that you are continually showing as logged out in Edge (but not in Firefox) has me thinking that you may be having an issue with our cookies, but only in that browser.
If you turn on cookies (so that our login cookie is not blocked) does that help? You can turn off cookies by following the steps Microsoft recommends here.
As well, for good measure I recommend clearing your cache and cookies on Edge as that may also sometimes cause issues. You can delete your existing cookies and cache by following the steps Microsoft recommends here.
If you do both of these does it resolve the issue you are having in the Edge browser? Thanks for the additional info!

You were right about those, after I tried them, my likes are working again on my Edge browser. Thank you so much!
