Like button not working
-
I tried to like a couple of posts on other people’s blogs and it does not work. A small, empty white box flashes up for a second and the like is not registered as usual with my avatar showing up.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi denisebushphoto,
It would be great if you could confirm the following for me:
- Which browser(s) you are using when the problem occurs
- Browser version number
Both pieces of information are available on supportdetails.com.
Just let me know and we can go from there.

I have the same problem like Denise’s. It seems to only affect those sites with their own domain names. If “wordpress.com” is part of the name, then the like button works.
I’m on Windows 10 (version 1809) using the MS Edge browser. Up-to-date on all security updates and Windows Defender antivirus/antimalware definitions. Cookies on.

I am noticing the same problem. It’s intermittent, though. I can like on some sites, but not on others. When I can’t, I also see a smaller white window pop up and then disappear immediately.
I am using MacOS High Sierra and Safari version 12.

Could your issues be similar to the one mentioned here?
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-like-posts-on-blogs-with-custom-domains/
This one was about Safari but I’d imagine Edge could have a similar setting:
With the update to Safari 12 Apple changed how that setting works, and it now also blocks the login tracking cookie we use to make following, comments and Likes work on sites not on the WordPress.com domain. Our developers are looking into whether there’s any way we can still make this work even if you have that setting on, especially as similar blocking will soon become standard in other browsers like Chrome and Firefox as well. But for now disabling that setting is the only option.

Hi Supernovia,
It is similar to the topic you referred to. The follow button remains in the same location, the right hand corner at the bottom of the page. I had cleared my cache 3-4 days ago, and the like button had worked. I’m still able to leave comments on those sites with a custom domain.
I can try clearing my cache again. I do use 2FA to log in, but I don’t think that would pose any sort of issue.

I just tried it again on a blog I hadn’t looked at before and got the same thing. A white empty box pops up & disappears quickly. I could not make a screen capture of it. Yesterday it happened on blogs I visited fairly often. I had to sign in when making comments on those blogs which is very unusual. I tried using my phone to like and went to one of blogs I went to yesterday … that same blog wants me to sign in again. When I try to like using the phone, the screen flashes and my avatar does not appear.
I am on MAC High Sierra
Safari 12.0iphone8 up to date

@denisebushphoto on yours can you try Safari preferences > Privacy and uncheck the option that says “Prevent cross-site tracking” ?
@hiddenlens will you see if you can find a similar setting in your browser?
-
Hi Supernovia,
In the MS Edge browser, there is no access to a “prevent cross-site tracking” setting. In IE 11, though, there is access to this particular setting.

YES! Unchecking ‘prevent cross-site tracking in Safari on both both phone and computer worked! I am able to like, and comment without signing in every time.
