like button only works on reader
-
1. The like button won’t work on blogger’s own pages. I can only like posts that appear in my reader because of this. I have checked that cookies are enabled, and I disabled my anti virus program – still makes no difference.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The like button does work on your blog posts. I just liked and then unliked this post http://helenebrennan.wordpress.com/2013/09/14/great-blasket-island-photographs-comments-stories-part-2/#respond using Firefox 23.
Those who say it does not work likely have a browser related issue. They can address and correct such issues by doing what follows.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. Try using another browser.

Maybe I misread you above. I would be overjoyed if I could disable the ability for any blogger to click the like button anywhere but on the post on my blog. I resent that fact the like button clickers have been able to click that blasted like button and button in emails and in the Reader without ever clicking into my blog posts reading them fully and creating a page view stat. That is why I have disabled the Sharing button on my RSS feed and have set my RSS feed to display only summeries and have inserted the read more button into each post before I publish them.
Bottom line: If Staff is removing the ability to click a like button everywhere except on the post when it is displayed on its own page I will be singing their praises loudly.
-
P.S. I’m tagging this thread for a Staff response and crossing my fingers that this is not a glitch. I am hoping this is the advent of a long overdue change that rectifies the grievous situation of people clicking like buttons on excerpts without ever clicking into posts displayed on their own pages and creating page view stats.

I’ve seen another report of Likes not always working:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/unable-to-comment-on-other-blogs-1/page/2?replies=44#post-1444034@ helenebrennan, please first confirm that you have third party cookies enabled:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/If you do, please review the thread above and let me know if it sounds like the same issue you’re having. It would be helpful to know which OS and browser (and browser version) you’re using. It would also be useful to know if you could try at least one other browser to see if the behavior continues.

Yes I have now enabled third party cookies and all seems to be working ok – so it seems that was the problem. I am using Firefox 23 and I had the same problem on Safari on another computer, but not with Google Chrome, I found. Thank you so much for the advice.

I would also like to comment in relation to above that Timethief did misread my message. I always open the bloggers pages before I click the like button.

Good on you and I’m so sorry I misread what you posted originally.

It’s good to hear that Likes are now working for you. In timethief’s defense, when you answer as many forums posts as she does, sometimes a point gets missed along the way. I’m just glad we got it all sorted out for you. :)

I had to snoopervise at our business all weekend and when I snoppervise I answer support questions here, while also running the chron jobs I need for my contracted work. I gather no moss and that’s for sure. Sometimes I become confused but usually I’m on top of it all. :)
