Why can only wordpress users like my posts? My friends try to like my posts but the “like-button” requires a password and username? Can I change this so that everybody can like my posts? I cant find the adjustments?

I have the exact same question/problem. Isn’t there a “like” button for non wordpress people?

What’s up with Facebook and everywhere else that has an in-house “like” button? Well, It’s the same thing that’s up here at WordPress.com. If you are not logged into Facebook then you cannot used their Facebook community like button. Similalry if you are not logged into WordPress.com then you cannot use the WordPress.com community like button.

My question though is that not everyone wants a blog, but they may want to like a post on a blog. Why not create a like button for everyone? If a blogger wants more privacy there are options to restrict viewer accessibility. But for people who want their blogs to be public, a non discriminating like button is a logical next step. ie. My parents should be able to like some of my posts without having to be wordpress members because I have chosen for my blog to be public.

All it takes to register a “username only please” account here, without regsitering a blog is an email address. It can even be a “throw-away” email address used only for that purpose. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
The e-mail address registered with your WordPress.com account is your unique identifier. (You will notice that when you sign up, WordPress.com does not require any other information.)

Difference between a social site and a blog service is that one is a network where the other is meant to be a platform. We def.ly are a community, but one that wants to reach out, as opposed to places where we guard our (and our friends’) privacy fiercely. Nothing wrong with wp asking readers to register, but too many of my friends have stopped at that point. FYI.

I bet with time, more and more people are going to be asking this same question.

TT, thanks for your continued support.
