"Like" comment email notifications
-
Dear Support,
I liked a comment on our blog. The person who wrote the comment received a email notification that someone had “liked their comment”. In addition to being told that someone had liked their comment, the email notification also provided information about the person (in this case – me) who liked the comment. This information include: 1) Name (my screen name), 2) Link (to the blog from which I liked the comment), 3) Gravatar Profile (a link to my gravatar profile, and 4) We think they’re from (listing a city and state where wordpress thinks I am from).
My question:
1) When someone likes my comment, the email notifications I received do not include these four pieces of information. Is this information provided on all “like comment” email notifications?
2) Is it possible for this information (#1-4 stated above) to NOT be displayed in email notifications?
Due to the nature of our blog, commenters’ anonymity is very important. Any suggestions on how this identifying information can be hidden from the public would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Hi @twbtc2012, aside from general location information, the like notification emails will only show information the individual has made public through their profile, or posts from public blogs.
If you’re mainly concerned about commenters getting information via the comment like feature, you could disable comment likes. I hope that helps.

Thank you supernova for your response.
Do you know if there are any other email notifications that include “general location” information other than the “like” notification emails? (such as the post or comment notifications)

Thank you for your time. I appreciate your help. Any chance that wordpress would eliminate the general location information from the like notifications if asked? I would even say, please :)

It would not be a simple task to turn it off for you without affecting everyone else, but I have passed along your feedback.
For now you might just disable comment likes, so that only post authors (all people you choose) will see like notifications.

Disable comment likes – yes, we shall do that.
And I will keep my fingers crossed that wordpress might recognize that the general location feature could be more harmful than helpful, especially in our case where the majority of our readers are domestic abuse victims, and decide to eliminate it across the board.
Thank you for your help in this!
