This is just the beginning…. so far they are not “liking” on my blog, but they are liking every comment I’ve made on other blogs.
What I want to know is: is this dangerous? I can turn off my the like button on my blog, but if others don’t it won’t make a difference, right? Is is dangerous that we are getting spammed? Are they getting personal information?

Add me to the list of those being spammed by these Russian-sounding “likes.” I don’t know what to do about it.

I am surprised we can’t turn off likes, if necessary to avoid spanners on our blogs. This is probably an endless battle, as they create more all the time, I suppose!

I’m having the same problem with Russian spammers “liking” my posts. It’s imperative that WordPress find a way to eliminate these “Likes.”

This is a problem not just limited to russian spammers. This occurs with several bloggers, and for me it’s always usually the same few. Christian Mihai for one (the most notorious – doesn’t matter how many blogs I start, that guy always finds them and like spams the crap out of them), and the others I can really remember off the top of my head until they hit one of my blogs again. I’ve just taken to turning off the likes and usually comments as well, since most of the blogs I do really don’t require either and if they do, then a contact page and contact form suffices for me. Some blogs though it is fun to get “real” likes on though and there should be something done to help us moderate this feature.

Having spam likes as well. No link to an actual blog to report. Had 21 likes when I woke up this morning. Very annoying. Always sexy. something

Like everyone else I am being overwhelmed by these spam likes. They focused on comments initially and then in past hour have been attempting to leave comments. Fortunately the latter within my control to block but would really like to stop the likes too. Come on wordpress think of a way we can stop them.

It’s easy to turn off comment likes. I just have. It’s an option under Sharing Buttons. Google how to turn off comment likes in WordPress.com for more detail.

I also responded to the thread started by nil1950, not knowing there was one here. I also had no clue about it being Russian. I got a lot of spam likes on comments, all satrting with the “sexy” prefix. I don’t want people who see my blog (nanasworldweb)to connect me with any site that starts with “sexy”.

Yes, I have also had this spam delivered to my private email box by WordPress likes.
How can I remove those likes from my readers also my own comments? -
I don’t get this.
http://www.sexy.[whatever] is a spammer who is driving me and my partner’s blog mad.I have added them to my blacklist but why can’t WordPress support stop this?
I don’t want to shut down likes just because someone at WordPress say they can’t solve this problem.
Find someone who can!

I put out a post of my blog about this activity.
The general consensus amongst folk I contact was don’t interact.
The annoying aspect (we all agreed) was having these spurious ‘likes’ cluttering up our other usual day-to-day activity with other bloggers.
And there seems to be nothing can be done to block them…..unless the blogger who originated the post goes through the post sifting it.
I noticed as of UK time 08:00 the activity seems to have stopped -
WordPress clearly has a security issue with Like spamming. Likes need to be controllable by the blog owner as well as needing to be properly filtered by WP.
WP needs to be clear about when this is likely to be fixed and what bloggers should be doing in the meantime. Turning off Likes is a sad solution and victory to the spammers.
The problem with this flaw is that your commenters get notified with inappropriate/adult links and blogs get polluted in their Like lists by the same inappropriate URLs.
