Like Spam from Russian Spammers

Tech support advised me on disabling comment likes on my blog. It worked, and now these spammers’ likes are not visible. I guess this is the only thing we can do for now to protect ourselves.
-
I think the attacks were mainly in the early hours of 2nd April (GMT) so settings changes is not what has made them stop.
For anyone unsure, to turn off Comment Likes go to My Sites > Sharing > Options – there’s a checkbox on the right

Had this issue yesterday and put out a blog post on it, which brought to light I was not alone.
Have checked this morning, and http://www.sex.??????? seems to have gone, even the outstanding likes I left unacknowledged yesterday.
Hope it can be resolved. -

In the meantime I have turned off the likes under the comments and have put a note on my blog that they will come back when the problem is solved…
Could it be that the spam appears only in blogs that have English as the main language? I haven’t seen it yet in Belgium or Germany…There also seems to be a confusion… Turning off the likes under the comments does NOT turn off the main likes meant for the post. And up to now there is no problem with those… :-)

I have not turned off likes or my comments, and today I haven’t been getting any Spam likes – both on my own comments and my comments on other’s blogs.
Hope this continues for everyone else and this is the beginning of the end of the Spam likes :)

I’ve started seeing comments from these websites in my spam folder this morning so they’re upping their game.

Our security team is actively working on these reports. Feel free to continue adding to the thread if needed.

I have also received notifications of likes on my comments on blogs I follow from these spammers.

Hopefully it has now stopped. However when I first reported this to WordPress I was directed to this thread saying the question was being answered, clearly not, so I asked again and have had no answer. Is there not a filter that WordPress can employ that will intercept anything starting http://www.sexy and ending ru? If anyone has a genuine blog starting like that I would be very surprised!

I am also having the same issue with liking my comments on other blogs. Today in the space of 20 minutes, they left 22 comments. I always approve comments so I could easily delete but it’s still super annoying.

chrissi1986 – I know that it’s super annoying and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work this out.

I’m sorry I deleted before I realised you wanted them copied and pasted. I had 22 spam in the last few hours.
Always starts with http://www.sexy. -
Hi Liz,
Last report :-)
All sexy stuff is now in the spam folder, I think. 20 of them. There must have been another attack since I last looked. But the first 10 are still under the ‘bell’ as well and seem to remain there.I ‘snagged’ the ones in the spam folder – but have not deleted them yet. Do you still need the addresses? And if yes, can they be posted in ‘Snagit’ form or do you need them ‘linkable’?

Since these spam Comment Likes started last week I’m now seeing a new abuse emerging – suddenly spam-type Followers are showing up, not something my blog has suffered from before. I imagine they are normally filtered – perhaps that filtering is now failing. Recent examples of obvious spam Followers include:
http://www.immodiumabuser.com
Male Enhancement Supplements
Fortunately bloggers do have control of that aspect of their site but WP really seems under the cosh at the moment. -
I’m also getting spam-type followers since this all started, all with @outlook.com domains. Thankfully I can block them, but annoying and worrisome.
-
Just checking my comments page this morning and discovered just under 40 spam comments from the ‘sexy.’ sites going back 5 days. I’ve deleted some but can let you know what the others are if you need to know.
