Hey there –
The great Timethief wrote a blog that provides instructions on how to get a Google Translate widget on your blog: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/
Hopefully this helps!

Hi there,
This is timethief logged in under my other username. What darnelldibbles linked to is my posts which provides all we can use on a free hosted WordPress.com blog for translation at this time.We do not have FTP access and we bloggers cannot install any plugins, we cannot use Microsoft or Google translation widgets or any others, as they are JavaScript and it’s stripped out to preserve security on this multiuser blogging platform. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascriptre: the two workarounds you will find at that link
Note: You can copy and paste the code on my Translations page and then replace every occurrence of my blog’s URL in the code with your own blog’s URL.If you are bilingual or multilingual and want to publish your free hosted WordPress.com in two or more languages but do not want to rely on machine translation that can be done see here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/02/25/wordpress-com-multilingual-blogs/

@TT
Hello, you!
Thanks for providing that resource for a work around. I see that it has been very helpful.
I was actually able to answer a few questions on the front page while you were on. I was shocked! LOL

Hey there. I’m in sluggish mode drinking green tea but if I drank a cuppa java that would change. ;) -
