*likes*
-
I am new to blogging. I have noticed that after I publish a post, I get some *likes* from other WP bloggers. How does this happen? Where are they published for bloggers to read each others posts? Is it a random search or is there a specific spot that entries are posted each day? I’d like to know because I’d love to read others posts and return the favor of *liking* them.
Thank You
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Gravatar images are linked to Gravatar profile pages and not all of those who click like buttons complete their Gravatar profiles and provide blog links in them. I have wasted hours of my life using Google search to locate their blogs. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/12/10/gravatars-for-global-recognition/
Likes and shares are misleading when you are talking about page view stats. Your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com blog who is logged into WordPress.com can “like” and “share” your posts in several locations such as in email and the Reader without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/07/09/wordpress-followers-likes-and-stats

If your posts are public, which I assume they are, then they will appear in the Reader of your followers and in different ‘Topics’ categories for the public.
For example, if you tag your post with ‘Music’ then it will appear in the Music topic on WordPress. If you want to read the blogs of the people liking your posts then you just click their Gravatar which @timethief has elaborated on. Just to summarise: if you click the little square with a picture in it (at the bottom of your post) , it will take you to that blog.
I only started this year too so I hope I got everything right! x

That’s not the case.
Gravatars when displayed under like button are not linked to blogs they way they are in comments. Under the like button gravatars are linked to gravatar profile pages and many bloggers do not enter their blog URLs on their gravatar profile pages.

Thank you. Both pieces of advice has helped. I am a novice and each day find a new challenge and something new to learn about blogging.

Timethief, I have found that out and am frustrated by not being able to thank the people who have liked my posts.
I think I registered my gravatar the correct way so that mine is linked to my Blog. If you have time or the ability, is there a way for you to see if I followed the prompts correctly?
Thank You.

@margber
You’re welcome. For best practices for uploading your own gravatar see here and scroll down to just below the video > Gravatar, Avatar, Blavatar http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/24/gravatar-avatar-blavatar/Also note this please:
The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/

Also, When hover my mouse over my user name, why does it go to an old Blog.com site that I do not use anymore rather than my wordpress site? I own my domain…Margber.com… registered it at Blog.com but would like to transfer it to WordPress. I do not understand how I can do that or it is is possible.
-
Yes, you can chnage that. Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

Oh gosh, Now my dashborad defaults to that old Blog.com Address. I cn not get it to switch back.
-
Oops! I misunderstood. Your username is currently linked to http://margber.wordpress.com/ I apologize.
Follow these instructions if you already have a domain that you registered elsewhere, and you want to map that domain to your blog. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
Also note > http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading -
After you make the domain mapping purchase and do the set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/
-
Yes, I have been trying to work through those instructions for weeks and do not understand the terms. Also, I think I just did something which I hope is not irreversible. I can not access my WP blog anymore. It keeps taking me to Blog.com
-
This is your login URL for your wordpress.com blog
http://margber.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
Try logging out and that will clear your browser cache. Then log in again using that URL. -
That URL takes me to my WP dashboard. When I try to access my WP BLog, it redirects me to Blog.com.
Help! I can not access my WP

All of my Posts are gone. I keep getting redirected to Bog.com. I do not understand what happened. Can to get them back from your end?
-
Also, when I hover my mouse under my user name in this gravatar seen here, It redirects me to Blog.com. What happened?
-
Do you have any idea how long it will take them to get back to me. I am feeling desperate. I would feel more comfortable if I knew all of my work was not gone.
