Likes and Comments on Posts Not Viewed

Yesterday I had a Like and a Comment on a post that, according to my stats, had not been viewed. Today I had a Like on another post that has no views shown in my stats. In the Reader, only a summary of my posts is visible and anyone wishing to read a whole post has to visit the site. From the comment yesterday it was obvious that the person had read the whole post. Any idea why these views aren’t showing up in my stats?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there!

I understand the confusion. Unless we know for sure that someone has visited your site, we can’t be certain that they didn’t simply comment/like your post from the reader. They don’t have to open the entire post in order to comment/like. We find many subscribers will simply like the post’s summary. It counts as a like on your stats, but not a visit.

I suspect this is the case in this matter. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

Hello there – yes, I understand that people can like and comment on a post, simply after reading just the summary (odd behaviour, if you ask me…) but what has made me scratch my head is that one of the comments refers to a section of the post that was not visible in the summary i.e. the commenter must have read the full post – and yet no view is recorded. I’m confused!

Hi! Thanks for the response, and the further details.

I’ve added a test account as one of your followers and liked/commented. Could you please let me know if this shows up as a hit to your site?

Also, please send me a link to the post/comment to which you referred in your post.

    Thanks so much!

Yes, that showed up as a hit. The post in question is:
    http://anstapa.com/2014/12/21/the-legend-of-the-silent-pool/
The comment is the only one on the post, from Rilla Z. She remarks on a character that didn’t appear in the summary, which is why I think she must have viewed the full post.

    Hey there,

Thanks for letting me know those stats appeared properly.

I wish I could give you an immediate answer, but this will be something we’ll have to keep an eye on. There is no indication that anything went “wrong” with the collection of stats on your site, but I want to make certain that this is the case going forward.

Please keep an eye on your stats after you receive comments and likes on your site via the Reader. Let me know the results. We can test further, if needed. We’ll get this ironed out so you can be secure with your statistics.

Thanks so much. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Best to you.

    Thanks for your help.

My pleasure. I’ll keep an eye out for a note from you about the results! All the best.

I’ve figured out what’s happening. The Reader in the WordPress mobile app displays the whole post, unlike the Reader on the website. So even if your blog Settings specify ‘Summary’ for the parameter ‘For each article in a feed, show:’, the mobile app ignores this. Mystery solved. You can unfollow that test account now!

Aha! Nice bit of sleuthing. Thanks for letting me know.
