likes but no visitors? gravitar? forum post stats? followers?
-
I’m pretty new at this. And I obviously do not understand much about how the site works, especially how the ‘stats’ work.
I’ve asked this before but haven’t received an answer. So I’m trying again in the hopes that someone will answer the following:
1. How someone can like a blog and it not be recorded in the stats as a visitor or as a like? Today the like doesn’t show up for today’s date unless I click on likes so I had no idea that anyone liked a blog until I got an email alert. Doesn’t this sort of defeat the purpose of the stats on line?
2. Today, when I noticed the that the doesn’t show where today’s like came from, I clicked on the blogger’s avatar located by the ‘like’ button and it took me to a gravitar?? site and NOT to their blog site. I don’t know what gravitar is and frankly at this point in my newness, I really just want to be able to see the blogger’s site and not some big “G.” How can I directly access a blogger’s site here on wordpress?
3. Is there some place in our account or profile that shows us a record of our posts in the forums?
4. As I said, I’m new at this and only have 5 followers. I’m a little confused why three of them would be following me given the content of their blogs. Especially since two of these three followers haven’t actually liked anything yet. Anyone have any ideas so to why?
Thanking you for your feedback in advance.

Hi there,
I’ll do my best to answer your questions here:
1. The stats page is not in real time and takes awhile to update. This page explains more about what is and isn’t included in the stats page.
2. Clicking directly on an avatar will take you to the avatar page about that user. If the person has a site linked to their WordPress.com account, you can click on their name and that will take you to their linked site. Not all WordPress.com users will have a linked site.
3. Here is a link that would help you find a record of your posts in forums: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/seekingmyowntruth . You can also get to this link by clicking on the word ‘Member’ underneath your username, next to this or any other of your posts.
4. It is possible for people to follow your blog (and even like, share and comment on blog posts) without even visiting your site. This is because they can view your site or posts in locations such as the Reader by searching tags, and can engage directly from here.I hope this helps?

Thank you, karen! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions and for the links. I will definitely familiarize myself with the information in the first link.
When I click on some of the bloggers avatars, some take me to their wp blog page and others take me to the gravitar site, which I am not familiar with. Would the reason for that be because some bloggers don’t sign up for gravitar and therefore, I am taken directly to their blogs?
Thank you so much for the link to the record of my posts in forums!!! I hunted all throughout my profile and couldn’t find this anywhere. I’ve bookmarked it for future use.
Re: people being able to follow, like, share and comment on blog posts w/o visiting my site, is that done in the hopes that the blogger will return the gesture?
Your response helped enormously! Thank you again!!

Glad it helped!
In terms of avatars, yes that’s how it looks regarding those small avatars next to the like button. However, if you go into the Editor under My Site, click on Blog Posts and find the blog post that you had the likes on, you can toggle the menu for that post and click on Stats. It will show the post likes, and this time when hovering you should be able to visit their post feed which links to their blog.
As for engaging with posts without reading them, yes I believe the main reason is as you say – people are more than likely generally looking to attract people to their own blogs. They may also see all they need/want to see within the Reader itself.
If they have subscribed to your blog posts they could also be viewing via email, or via RSS feed. You can however make sure only your excerpt shows in RSS feeds and emails by clicking on Settings under your My Sites menu, then clicking on ‘Writing’, and find the ‘Feed Settings’ section. You can turn ‘Limit feed to excerpt only’ on.
If you want to customize exactly what shows up in the post excerpts, take a look at the Excerpts support page.

Thank you, karen! I have limited the feed setting. And I am familiarizing myself with the link that explains the RSS feeds. I really appreciate all of your help! Thank you so much!!
