likes button not working

the likes button is not working for some blog readers. when pressed it says “loading” but never actually posts as “likes”

We just started having the same issue with our private blog, acsncic.wordpress.com. I have double checked all the settings, and “likes” are turned on.

Where did you find the settings to turn Likes on or off? My Like feature has disappeared on my blog and new blogs I visit.

Via Settings>Sharing. I used this support page to verify steps for ensuring likes are on:

Hello, can WordPress Support help with this issue?
Our private blog (http://acsncic.wordpress.com) is for employees, and our office IT department just tried but was unable to resolve the issue. They tested it with different internet browswers including Firefox and Chrome, but still the “like” button would not work for the user.

It’s difficult to help when we do not know exactly which browser (and version of it) those who cannot click like buttons are using. Please request they check here http://www.whatbrowser.org/ Note if they are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please ask them to try upgrading or switching first.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting http://whatbrowser.org/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Timethief.. I use Firefox and it has happened more than once to me on different blogs…
I don’t know the commentors browser because I forget now who it was.
MacManx… I cleared cache and cookies and 3rd parties are enabled
I did not change to https because I never browse in public places and it apparently slows down browsing… I am slow enough already… Diane -
Ok, would you please try that anyway, let me know your browser version, and try with all extensions disabled?

and couldn’t ‘like’… It is intermittent …sometimes yes and other times no.. makes no sense .. I can still comment but not ‘like’ Some people notice if they have no likes because often people don’t want to leave comments…. just a thought

I looked at the ‘add on’s in my browser settings and they are all blocked ..I don’t have any active add on’s … So I have done all the steps I believe that you asked me to…. Diane

Exactly which version are you referring to? Use http://whatbrowser.org/ to find out if you do not know.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html

Our staff are required to use IE 8. However, we also tested the issue using the latest version of Firefox with no luck. We will try the other steps suggested by staff-blorbo and let you know how it goes. (Turning the Compatibility on or off did not help either.)

I asked one of our readers (who does not have administrator rights to our blog) to test the steps you suggested while viewing the blog in the latest version of Firefox. None were successful. She still just sees “loading” by the Like button. Not only is she not able to like posts, she can’t even see others who were able to the like the post. (For the most part, the only users who can like a post are those who have admin rights for our blog, but I have noticed that at least 2 readers who don’t have admin rights can still Like.)
Any other suggestions?
