Likes not appearing

I posted this morning and have had email notification of at least four likes but they have not appeared on my blog.
In my dashboard I have had notification of one like but that hasn’t shown up on my blog.
I am running Firefox 26 – latest version. All cookies and cache have been constantly cleared and Firefox completely closed down.
I noticed this has been happening on fellow bloggers sites and after a while likes appear all together.

I had the same problem just start happening a few hours ago. It happened in the “middle” of a post going live. The first few likes were tracked and displayed, and then they stopped displaying. I continue to get email notifications saying they’re received, but no record on the site. Weirder still, my “dashboard” lit up with a notification and a “star” signalling a like but when I clicked on it, it showed nothing. On my iPhone, in the app, it showed more likes which didn’t show up on my computer. When I refreshed my notifications in my iPhone, however, they disappeared and now shows the same (fewer) number as on computer. I’ve logged in/out. Refreshed, used different browsers, different devices, both logged in and not, and the view was the same.
Then, miraculously, like you describe, they all suddenly appeared. The good news is they aren’t lost, but the bad news is why is this happening at all? Looks like this problem was reported back in September and is not going away.
I write this as legacy for others who may experience the same problem in the future. Don’t despair.

I didn’t see it until this week. If it’s been happening since September, maybe WordPress could let us know that it’s an ongoing problem with no solution, either by a mass email or putting a sticky at the top of this forum?

Thank you. I’ll continue to monitor and follow discussion there. There are no shortage of threads started (and closed) on the topic.
While it is working now (here), you’ll see the text says “2 bloggers” like this, but shows 6 Gravitars. The problem was worse on this other post I submitted today, but it resolved and the total numbers match the icons. I can’t make sense of it so I’m not surprised WP insiders can’t figure it out either.

Based on my ancient experience in software development, there are a couple of likely explanations, but they’re the kind that are especially hard to figure out. Either some variable is being randomly stepped on, resulting in the list of likes being messed up, or there is an intermittent resource-related timing problem. They’ll fix it eventually if they keep working on it.
