Liking the posts

    Hi, I am able to post regularly on my blog, but readers and friends are not able to ‘like’ the posts as they used to do. Either the button doesn’t show, or it asks them to create an account. Is that normal? Thank you!

    Hi there,

    I just tested the Like button on your site by clicking it on your most recent post, both using my main account and a test account, and it worked fine in both cases, so the problem is not with your site.

    The Like button only works for someone who is logged into a WordPress.com username account. It has always been that way.

    But if a reader is logged into WordPress.com and they’re getting a message that they need to log in to use that button, that points to a problem in their browser. Specifically, that we’re not able to detect that they’re logged in, which means either the WordPress.com authentication cookie in their browser has expired, or they might be blocking browser cookies completely, either via their browser privacy settings, or via a browser add-on.

    Likewise if the button doesn’t show at all for a logged-in visitor, their browser might be blocking the JavaScript code that button uses to work.

    So ask those visitor to make sure they have third party cookies and JavaScript enabled in their browsers, to temporarily disable any browser add-ons, and then to clear all WordPress.com cookies in their browser and log back in.

    If none of that helps, it would be best if those visitors can open their own support requests so we can continue troubleshooting with them directly.

    This person does not have a WordPress account, but she says she used to be able to like my posts without creating an account. Is it possible?

    No, this is not possible. As @kokkieh said, the Like button only works for someone who is logged into a WordPress.com username account and it has always been that way.
