liking unseen posts
-
I’m not sure what’s going on. When I look through my reader to see what’s been posted by blogs I follow, lately it shows that I have already ‘liked’ all the posts from a certain blog, even though I’ve never looked at them yet. Yes, I do click the like button on most of their posts, but I don’t want that to happen for all of their posts before I’ve even glanced at them! Any idea what’s happening?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I’m not that familiar with the Reader, but I found that in my Reader only the number of “Likes” is given, and nothing to identify who “Liked” a post. If I see “2 Likes” at the bottom of a post, it doesn’t indicate that I “Liked” it. Are you seeing your Gravatar image beside the “Likes” tally?
-
On the posts themselves the corresponding Gravatars, if any, will appear beside the Likes tally, but not (on my account at least) on post excerpts in the Reader.
-
Thanks for your comments, musicdoc1. Let me try to explain myself better…
If I have liked a post, the “likes” star and number in my reader will be bright orange, rather than a pale gray-blue. Then I can click through to the person’s post on their blog and it will say at the bottom “You and ### bloggers liked this,” and my Gravatar image will be in the list of those who liked the post.
That’s what is happening for a certain blog I follow, even when I have not visited their site in days or liked any recent posts of theirs.
-
Got it. Thanks for the detailed explanation. I don’t know what might be causing that to happen. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.
-
Ok. Thanks for that idea.
I went back and double-checked on their latest post. Again, it was bright orange in the reader, and again it said on the original blog post that “You and ### bloggers liked this,” but this time I could not find my Gravatar photo on the post or in the list of those who liked it. I clicked the like button, which made the “You…” part disappear. When I clicked it a second time, the “You…” reappeared at the bottom of the post and my Gravatar image also appeared first on the list.
It’s weird because this only happens on one blog I follow in the reader. I’ll see if I can add the “modlook” tag now. Thanks again.

Hi @merryheartsmedicine, can you click on that blog in the reader and send us the reader link for it?
Also, can you change your password for good measure?
-
Is this the link you mean?
https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/25874863
The latest post they did today did not show in the reader that I liked it. Could it have been a temporary glitch? They post almost daily. I’ll see if their post tomorrow does it again. This has been happening for a week or two.
Thanks for your help.
-
Thanks @merryheartsmedicine. I noticed as I looked through that you’ve liked some of those posts, but not all of them. Even as I scroll back a bit it seems kind of random.
Is that what you see too, or are these posts that you deliberately unliked after seeing they were liked? Thanks for any clues you can send to help us sort this out. :)
-
That’s what I see, too. I unliked a couple of them, but this problem was only happening over the last week or two. The last two posts they have made did not show me liking them before I saw them.
I changed my password when you suggested. Could that have stopped the problem, or was it some type of weird glitch? That’s two days now that everything has worked fine. Maybe it won’t happen again?
I appreciate your help. Is there anything specific I need to do if it does happen again?
-
Just notice what you were doing before and during the time those posts appeared as liked.
For example, I haven’t noticed this on WordPress.com, but on Facebook and Instagram I’ve discovered I accidentally liked posts because of the way I was scrolling on my phone. I guess my thumb just happens to fit right over the like button. So I started scrolling with the other hand instead and that seems to work.
-
I don’t have internet on my phone. Maybe my hand hit the mouse pad on my laptop? I really don’t think it did, but who knows?
Thanks again, and sorry to take up so much of your time.
-
No worries at all. And my hand hits the pad on my laptop all the time. If you see it happen again, let us know what you find out. Cheers!
