Limit Number of 'Posts' or Stories on Static Homepage-NOT a Blog page

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m using Hemingway Rewritten as a theme. My homepage is static and is not a blog page. I do have a blog page as a choice under a ‘tab’ or drop-down tab though.

I see when I select blog the number of partial posts is limited by my choice I set.

Can I limit the number of items I type on my static homepage. I am trying to have older stories written – say more then 3 – I’d like them to be listed under ‘older’ – but if I say ‘posts’ here I think you might think these are on a blog page. They are not – they are on a static site page which is my homepage.

    I apologize for my confusion.

    Hey slaterunsportsmen,

This is the behavior of the theme you use. You’re using a static page as the front page which means, it shows the content you write on that specific page.

Whereas on the other side, the blog page is generated dynamically.

You have to add your content manually to your static home page like you have already done. You can edit that to link to the blog posts.

I would like my homepage to LOOK LIKE is was NOT a static page. I’d like it to look like where it says: Homepage Settings – “Your Homepage Displays” and the selection is “your latest posts”.

But I’d only like it to LOOK like that. I like the partial text content and that I could control the number of ‘posts’ then it has the ‘Older content’ at the bottom of the page. I do not want the homepage to be a blog style page though.

From what you say though I can NOT have this. Is this just a Theme issue or are all themes like this?

    Thank you for your response.

    Hey slaterunsportsmen,

You can set your home page as the static page, showing your latest posts (similar to your blog page), portfolio page (if available in your theme) and a few other depending on the features your theme has.

But the page you’re asking is similar to the blog page and you can’t change its behavior until you change the theme codes.

You can change its design using the Custom CSS though.

I’ll check out what the portfolio page does. Like I said, I would like my homepage to only look like a blog page – that is I’d like to have control of how many ‘posts’ or stories or articles I would limit the homepage to have displayed on it. I’ll try portfolio out and see if that comes close to what I want.

I did NOT think I could change the CSS or index.php files since I am only using the .COM services form WordPress? Can I edit these files even with this account that I have? If so, where are they located? I will need to find them in order to edit them. I am NOT familar with how to edit them but woudl like to try if that is something offered.

    Thanks again

You are allowed to add CSS if having a Premium or Business Plan.

You can’t edit any PHP file.

    Hope this info helps.

Right – I thought that was the case. My website is NOT a premium or business account therefore I CAN NOT edit the CSS or PHP files.

So that alternative will NOT work for me. It looks like I can NOT alter my website like I want due to the ‘.com’ nature of it. I can accept that for now.

Whoever closes these issues/threads – feel free to close this one I got the answers.

    Thanks
