Limit posts seen on Homepage?
-
My Homepage displays all posts on my site. I would like for the homepage to only show some posts. Is there any way to do this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Yes! You can determine the number of posts to display on your homepage by logging into your WordPress dashboard, click on Settings, and then on Reading, scroll down and look for Blog pages show at most and adjust the number as needed.

Thanks, but what I’m looking for is a way to show a specific set of posts, not just limit the number.

Thanks for clarifying! You could use the Display Posts Shortcode [display-posts] to achieve what you’ve described. Please see detailed instructions in this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/display-posts-shortcode/

Thanks! It looks like I can only add a short code block to a custom homepage. Is this the case? The reason I want to use the default home page is that when I specify a custom static homepage, I lose the default layout that comes with my theme.

Hello there,
Happy to help you with this.

Yes, that would be the case yes. This theme is designed more to show all posts on the front page.
To help maintain consistencies with a static front page, you may wish to look at using a Blog post block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the explanation. I’m new to WP, and I chose the Rebalance theme because among the themes that had the look-and-feel I was going for, it was free. I wanted to see if WP would work for me before committing to a paid plan that would include more themes. It appears now that this theme might not be right for me.
Are there themes that allow editing the default HomePage (not a static Page designated as HomePage). If so, how can I tell? I’ve tried Demo-ing a few advanced themes, but I can’t see if this is a feature of these themes. Thanks! -
The default home page of any theme is just a list of posts and therefore cannot be directly edited.
But, like my colleague suggested above, you can mimic that in a static front page which you can edit by adding the Blog Posts block.

Thanks. I’ve tried this, but the Blogs Post page does not look exactly like the Posts Home Page. The margins, featured image size, column widths, etc. are different, and I can’t figure out how to configure these. The work-around I’ve figured out is to set all the posts I want to show on the Home Page to “Stick to the top of the blog” and then limit the number of posts to the number with this control set.
