Limit search to specific entries and search for relationships between them

    I am brand new to WordPress.com and would like to use the platform to create a personal database/online encyclopedia for my research. Before I go to the trouble of uploading all of the articles I want to input for my research, I would like to know if I will ultimately be able to accomplish a very specialized type of search within my WordPress.com site.

    Let’s say I upload 100 entries, each entry being a biography of a historical person, and each entry being a page on my WordPress.com account.

    For research purposes, I want to be able to enter the names of a handful of people and discover connections and similarities between them:

    For example, I would like to be able to enter four names, each of which is also the title of a Page on my WordPress.com site, such as:

    ‘Elizabeth Turcotte’

    ‘Joseph Lambert’

    ‘Clara Huntington’

    ‘Otis Redman’

    Next, the search feature would analyze each of these four notes and bring together everything the biographies have in common, like this:

    ‘Elizabeth Turcotte’

    ‘Joseph Lambert’

    ‘Clara Huntington’

    ‘Otis Redman’

    — Architect

    — 19th century

    — educated at Oxford

    — liked ice cream

    Remember, this is not a Boolean search for entries that contain the phrases ‘architect,’ ’19th century,’ ‘educated at Oxford,’ and ‘liked ice cream.’ The search I want to perform FIRST specifies a finite list of note titles to be included in the search, and THEN, after this parameter is set, the search finds what’s in common between these entries.

    Is this level of analysis possible with WordPress.com?

    Hi, so you’re looking for overlapping attributes between those individuals?

    That is not built into WordPress.com search, and you’d likely need either a plugin or some custom development to make it work. Something like https://facetwp.com/ might work, but you’ll want to double check with their sales team to be sure.

    Then, to host that site here you would need our Business Plan, because outside plugins and themes add complexity to our support and maintenance.
