limit the length of posts??

I am looking to limit the length of some of our longer posts? Like a “more” button, or an ellipsis?
We bought the custom theme upgrade… can it be done in CSS??
Thanks so much!!

No need for CSS – the More Tag is built into Every WordPress site

No extra charge at all.

You do not require a custom design upgrade to use any of the methods for splitting content. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/ For long posts you can insert the next page (pagination tag). http://support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/nextpage/

Also note that one cannot use CSS editing to change functionality and code in a specific post/page length. We cannot edit themes or templates. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/ CSS editing can only be used to change appearance by editing the the styleheet. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

No. that’s not possible. However, there are some themes that are coded to display beginning of posts only on the front page. Are you interested switching themes?

It IS something that’s been requested a number of times, so you can send it to staff as a suggestion.

Do you know of a theme off of the top of your head that does that?
An excellent question. I was going to suggest filtering themes but “uses excerpts” is not an attribute you can filter on. I will be interested in this answer myself

Inuit Types, Fusion, Fresh & Clean, Hemingway, Chateau, Fusion and the Morning After are all themes with this feature that immediatedly come to mind. They aren’t the only ones. See here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/the-excerpt-function/
