Limit the number of posts in the homepage

  Hi,

  I built a website using WordPress and I want to limit the number of posts in the homepage (for example only the 10 newest posts).
  If there are too many posts at the homepage my site will take a long time to load.
  How can I do it? Is there a plugin I can use or is it related to the configuration of WordPress?
