Limits of Custom CSS
-
I’m currently using the Sapphire Theme (on wordpress.com) with a tiny bit of custom CSS to change the way bulleted lists look. My main problem with this theme is that it doesn’t put the links for “pages” in the header — they just go in a list in the right-hand column. Other themes (Cutline, for example) make those links much more prominent — left to right, across the top of the page.
Is this something that can be changed within an existing theme? I don’t particularly want to change the rest of the site’s appearance.
Thanks very much to anybody who can help.
Steve

There are only two volunteers who choose to answer CSS editing questions and neither one appears to be online. I’m afraid you will have to wait until one of them logs in and finds this thread.

You cannot add top navigation to a theme that does not now have it. It requires changes to the underlying theme files and we do not have access to those.

Okay. Thanks. I had a feeling that was the answer.
Seems like this might be a feature request. I went through all the available themes and there’s nothing I like better than what I have. But I’d really prefer a nav bar.
Thanks again,

WordPress uses GPL themes developed by outside authors for the most part, and the pretty much stick to the designer’s choices. It would be quite a bit of work to add that option to the themes here that do not now have that option since it would require not only adding the necessary mods to the underlying theme PHP script files, but also styling the nav bar so that it would look good with the theme. Some of the themes here would be quite messy to add top navigation to due to they way they are designed, The original designer never took top nav into account when they did the theme.
