Line Breaks, Enters, Page Breaks
-
My poem was properly inserted and then I went in and changed two words in one sentence. Saved it and suddenly all the page breaks were gone. I have looked on EHow for answers, since they aren’t here. I clicked on the ? button and it said to do Shift Enter. The page breaks are not there and it has been published and I need it fixed now. Yesterday the poem looked perfect, now it looks ridiculous.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

EHow does not provide support for free hosted WordPress.com bloggers. This is the correct support forum for that.
Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application.
If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/
If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.
If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/09/13/wordpress-formatting-and-spacing/
P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It’s in the Visual editor Row 2 first position “style”. See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

So, as I said, I have done all of these things and I hit update and it goes right back to normal again. I looked at the poetry website and it gave me the same instructions as EHow did. I have been typing on WP for many years now and every once in awhile these things happen. The last two weeks I have posted poems on there without fail. Today the same thing I have been doing didn’t work. I even deleted the post and tried typing it in write there on WP. That didn’t work either.

I have it in private right now. Will you be able to see it? If not I can open it up.
-
Volunteers cannot view private posts. If you prefer to leave it private I can tag this thread for Staff to examine the post.

I’m sorry but I don’t see any issues with that post at all. I’m using Firefox 21. I tagged this thread for Staff help but another Volunteer may come along and assist your before Staff get to it.

Looking at the code of that post, every line is its own paragraph. The quickest way to fix this is to copy it all into a text editor like Notepad that strips out formatting, format it the way you want, and paste it in via the “paste from Text” button on the advanced toolbar.
-
If you look at my other poems below it, you will see
breaks in between some of the sentences. I guess paragraph breaks is what term I am really looking for. There are no paragraph breaks in The Pawn. I have viewed it in Explorer and Firefox. the breaks are significant in reading the poem.
So can I put it back in private since the staff will be looking at it?

Look there is something wrong with WP. I spent 15 min in notebook and got the same results when I put it in. I have been writing for the past two weeks, and suddenly today it all goes haywire.
-
Are you on Windows 7 perchance? People are reporting things going wonky on them with that.
-
I have Vista at home. This was typed up last night on Word and pasted onto WP. This morning I saw a mistake and I deleted two words clicked update and all my paragraph breaks were missing.

Okay, then judging by what you said about Word you almost certainly have a cumulative HTML error. This is endemic when people use Word; it goes along fine for ages and then BAM! Something goes haywire.
Try this: go to Settings->Writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML” and save. This makes sure that any invisible code tags inserted by Word are fixed and don’t hurt your blog.
Then edit that post. Do anything at all to it, then Update it. That forces teh change above to take effect.

Nope. That didn’t work either. I can’t believe after years of using WP with Word, suddenly this. I’ve had this happen before but there was a simple solution then.
