line spacing on website
-
Hi,
I am pretty well satisfied with the way I’ve got my book excerpts page settled with new block system, so this is a minor issue — which has also been an issue with the old systems:
When I lay out verse on the page, and have to hit Enter after each line, I automatically get double space as if I were moving to a new paragraph: is there a way to keep the verse single-spaced?
Here is the link if you want to see what I’m talking about; scroll down about half way until you see verse instead of prose:

I’m not sure what that looks like. I have 2 shift keys with upward-pointed arrows; nothing that says “Return” on it, just symbols. My laptop is not much more than a year old. Assuming this problem is resolved, do I hold and release all the keys simultaneously? And can this be done on existing content if I highlight it?

Any of the shift keys will work. If you don’t have a Return key, you probably have an enter key.
Basically, use the same key you hit to make a new line, but hold Shift whole you hit it.
Shift if the key you hold to make a capital letter, so think of it like making a capital new line. :)

So this is only for typing new content directly into block-formated web page?
What about pasted-in texts from Word? -
When you paste content in from another source, it can depend. With Word specifically we see issues when content is pasted from that app, so we don’t typically recommend it: https://wordpress.com/support/microsoft-word/
With that said, if you do notice some lines are coming in as double spaced you can clean that up by deleting the spacing, and then re-adding it (as a single space) by pressing SHIFT + ENTER again.
Hope this helps!

Thanks. I tried this with the already pasted in copy, but it wouldn’t work.
So I just erased it and typed it in using the suggestion you gave.
Very helpful.
