Line-wrapping stopped happening

The title says it, more or less. A few weeks ago, when I wrote a new post, I could actually read what I had written without having to scroll left and right to follow a paragraph.

Now, as I type, it just keeps scrolling right until I do a carriage return, and I have to scroll left and right to read a sentence.

My inner cynic can’t help thinking “okay, they’re trying to annoy me into the Brave New Posting Experience” (which I have tried and did not like).

But I’ll start by assuming it’s a mistake of some kind. A very irritating mistake.

So, how do I get back to being able to read and edit in a human-usable manner?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry about this. It sounds like the editor has gotten out of paragraph mode and into div mode. I checked a number of your draft posts and don’t see that issue, and don’t see it on your site anywhere. Can you point to a post where this has happened – even a draft post?

What’s obnoxious is that it loads correctly as the page is loading, and then “corrects” to the unreadable form. And it’s not just on one blog.

And it has been EVERY post I’ve begun or worked on for at least the past week.

I should have stated this directly before, but I edit in text mode, not “visual”.

OK, I went in with a different browser, and the lines wrapped there. So apparently, it’s an issue with Firefox 36, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Hi, on my Mac with FF 36, I opened both of the posts you referenced in my browser and everything wrapped correctly, in the Visual and the Text tab. I also checked in the normal dashboard editor and in the new editor as well.

Are you on Mac or Windows, and which version of the OS are you on? If you are on Windows, then this may be an issue with only the Windows version of FF 36 and it might be that the next version of FF (36.0.1 or whatever) will fix the issue. If I know exactly what you are using, I can see if I can reproduce it.

I’m on Lubuntu 14.10, actually. And I run apt-get updates just about every day, so whatever’s latest in the repositories is what I’ve got. :)

It does seem to be the browser, because I’m getting it a few other places as well, like on Twitter (in one text entry box, but not another), and Reddit, as well as comment forms.

But not on the text box I’m typing this into. It’s very weird, and looking at the various text boxes using “Inspect Element” isn’t giving me any clue what makes some wrap and others not.

In any case, I can always log in with QupZilla and edit that way.

If you are running nightly builds and not the latest stable public release, that could well be the issue. We always recommend running the latest public release.

Nope, the nightly builds would be the alpha or beta for next month’s release. I’m on the current and stable system.

Hmmm, perhaps it is an issue only with the Lubuntu version of Firefox. I can’t recreate on Firefox in Mac or Windows.

Or it’s an extension, or a combination of a wonky extension and the Linux Firefox.

In any case, you were above and beyond the call of duty to keep looking even after it was clear it wasn’t WP, for which, thanks. :)

You are welcome, and hopefully a future update – somewhere – will fix the issue. :)
