Linebreak in comments wont work

  • Unknown's avatar

Can someone please help me. I can´t find any place to solve the problem that linebreaks are missing when someone is leaving a comment.

I´ve tried myself both to put dubbel <Br> and <P> in the comment text, nothing happens I´ve tried to edit my comment the same way without any change.

When the comment is written it looks okey so also in the in mails arriving when someone comment, but in the blog, there is no space between the lines.

Also when I write a post and switch to code, I don´t see any codes at all for linebreaks or anything. It look like visual, but I can write html. But atleast I get spaces between the lines in my written blogs.

Hope you understand what I mean, I am from sweden so my english language isn´t perfect :-)

    Greets:

    It’s <br /> in HTML 4.01. Please try that.

Thank you for the answer, but I´ve tried that too. Nothing changes, you´re welcome leave a test comment to see for your self.

    Everything looks alright in wp-admin/edit-comments.php
but not there people reads the comment.

If I edit a comment and put in break, nothing change in view and if I go back to edit, I don´t even see the break code, it seams to dissapear the moment I publish.

By the way, do You also mean that visitors should know that they must write html to comment with linebreaks?
Shouldn´t that be written somewhere nearby the comments then?

It may be stripping it from comments which would be strange but that’s the only thing I can think of. I do note that if you look at one of your posts, there’s a line or two underneath showing what’s allowed and those two marks aren’t in there.

Best bet would be to submit a feedback to staff along with a pointer to this thread (once they come back from holiday) and see if we can get input from staff on the subject.

Thanks again, yes I´ve noticed that, but I thought that br and p, are you always using, so I didn´t reflect that it maybe had to stand there too to be used.

I think it´s something wrong in the tamplate code, but at the same it should be strange if only I noticed that.

I will try to send this matter to Feedback support, if it isn´t anyone else who can solve it.

Can it depend on something the Theme maker had done wrong?

Anyway thanks a lot for trying to help me!

If it’s being stripped, it would be the base WordPress code that’s doing the stripping, not the theme.

Feedback sent. (Well, email to support)

I see the problem with Iceburgg but not Daydream.

    Comment line 1

    Comment line 2

    will be reduced to

    Comment line 1
    Comment line 2

Is that the theme in question? I’m surprised a theme would do that though, as drmike says I too would expect it to be core.

  • Unknown's avatar

Are we sure that that’s not CSS spacing over HTML tags?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry didn´t see that you was asking for my theme, I´m using Pool by Borja Fernandez

I don´t know what it is, but everything look alright ( with line spaces) everywhere exept after you hit send and then all linebreaks dissapears in comments.

But as I said. Somethings seams to be wrong even if I write my blogs in code, I can write codes, but for instans if I write br or p, in the blogstart to get some space, nothing happens i view.

I don´t even see the htmlcodes in that view, looks like in design view.

    @respons
drmike previously dealt with the same issue line break in this thread I found in the forum search box. I typed in Pool and formatting to locate it.

Try using a . I believe the standard <br> mark is now incorrect under HTML 4.01/ XHTML 1.0 Transitional which is what WP puts out.

Here’s the link to theme reviews for Pool’s features and known bugs http://engtech.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/wordpress-theme-review-pool-cutline-rounded-day-dream/

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks a lot timethief for the links. That one with br I have already tested, neither of it works, and I couldn´t find that as a bug on engtech.

But I was woundering I went looking at the thememakers blogg, and the theme are written for .org – can that be of any matter, though You say it´s diffrent from .com

I can see in that .css that some bugs are fixed, but I don´t know if we are using the same here.

It also looks like it´s build from K2 and I have seen other blogs using that who seams to have breakline problem.

Well maybe the feedsupport have som answer, but is it only me using that theme and have problems?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yest the theme was orginally designed for .org and then was coded for wordpress.com (MU) later.
You could try <&nbsp;> to create your line breaks. It might work. I’ll leave it to drmike to answer the rest of what you said. ;) You can use the forum search box to see if anyone else has reported Pool bugs.

Thank again TT, NOW it works both with br and p IF I use [ ] between.

BUT, only for med of course but those who writes comments don´t know it :-( and as far as I know people isn´t use to mix html with text when they comment.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m wondering: why suffer when you can switch to K2 re-do your header and be blogging without bother? :P

  • Unknown's avatar

Don´t know, I´ve used K2 on own domain, and didn´t like it, I took this one ´cause it was in blue. And now I don´t dare to change if something goes wrong thoe themes seams to have diffrent layouts, fonts etc.

I did use one other at first before people start visiting me, but when I changes to this I had to do the header again in diffrent size.

*s* Well now I know I looked at your blog, and realised it was because I didn´t like the font and fsize in K2

Thanks, but no, I did that in the beginning. I´m to lazy. I even wrote outsida the blogg, but I just want to write the simple way.
But maybe I hope, someone, someday will make a theme I feel comfortable with :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

I like being able to blog without being compelled to become geeky too. I don’t bother changing font size either. I’m never satisfied with any theme for long and I change them on my blogs almost often as I change clothes. (well, not really) :D
