Lines across my pages
-
I’ve been absent for some time from the site but just coming back to it now I find that some of my articles look as though they are written on lined paper. There are distinct lines across the page and I don’t know how to get rid of them. Any ideas?
I am not happy with the appearance of my blog either and I cannot seem to get the effect I want, i.e. I want categories like Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Thailand etc., country names, to be on the opening page so that they can be clicked on and the articles for those countries would be filed under that name. I’ve made categories for these names but they just don’t show up and the pieces are all over the place. Can I start all over again, make a new site and transfer the articles?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I find that some of my articles look as though they are written on lined paper.
1. Where are the URLs for examples of what you see please?
2. Categories and Static pages are not the same thing. Categories widgets and dynamic Category Pages do not have any data to display until you publish a post in each Category. You have not assigned Categories to your posts and you need to edit them and do that now.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/Look at the live demo site here http://shaandemo.wordpress.com/ and note the custom menu across the top. That’s where you can have links to your dynamic Category pages display.
Please read this first Post vs. Page http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(1) There is only one page we can post to in any blog.
(2) The static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ we bloggers create do not automatically update.Only the dynamic pages like Archives, Categories and Tags created by the software when we publish a post will update automatically update with new posts.
By default the front page of the blog is the Page that displays all posts in your blog. You can create a static front page and have your published posts display on another page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ but doing that does not change what follows.
Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
This guide will walk you through how to create category pages for your blog, to display groupings of similar posts on pages other than your front page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/
Create a custom menu
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#creating-a-custom-menu
Add dynamic categories and sub-categories pages to it
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages
Create order and sub-menus (dropdowns)
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menusHere’s a link to my post on this http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/07/25/create-a-wordpress-website-step-by-step/
There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and there are some tweaks you can use to improve your custom menu as well.

Can I start all over again, make a new site and transfer the articles?
Understand that (1) if you delete a URL it cannot be recycled and (2) deleting it will solve nothing. You have some basic misunderstandings that need to be cleared up by working through what I posted above.

Whew! I have got lot to learn. I shall sit down tomorrow evening and start reading through the list you’ve kindly given. Thank you for your help. I’m sure that if I pay attention to it, my problems will be solved.

One of the articles with the lines across the pages is http://travelsineuropeandasia.wordpress.com/2013/03/20/tea-growing-mid-atlantic-in-portuguese-azores/ The lines start about halfway down the article. Another one is http://travelsineuropeandasia.wordpress.com/2013/03/16/cruising-the-verdict/
There are a few others but these I send as examples.

I don’t see what you see. I see a normal appearance ie. no lines. Please post screen shots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ for Staff to examine and I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please also subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I cannot get the screen shop to post as when I try to copy it to my PS programme the computer freezes. It has now done this 4 times. I also tried to copy it as a Word doc. to a blank page but this won’t transfer to PS either.

Hi there,
I took a look at the posts you mentioned in both Chrome and Internet Explorer, and I didn’t see any lines across the pages. Is there another computer where you can check your blog, to see if the lines show up there?
That kind of behavior sounds like an issue with your computer itself (for example, your computer’s graphics card) or monitor. If you can’t save your screenshot on your computer, you can use an online service like Snaggy instead. I’ll be happy to take a look to see if the problem is stemming from something here at WordPress.com.

I shall try to upload my web pages to another computer tomorrow and get back to you. Meantime, thank you very much. Snaggy looks very useful.
