Link back to dashboard form new design?
-
When you click through to the “new design” for composing a post, as far as I can tell it takes four clicks via the blue “My sites” link to the home page then via the black admin bar to return to the dashboard. Unlike classic design, there’s no dropdown menu direct to the dashboard. Or is there a shortcut button that I have yet to find?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t use the new editor so I tagged this thread for a Staff response. Another Volunteer may respond before they do. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond.

Hi @ontheliner – We just launched some updates to the My Sites page including an updated “Site Picker” that helps you select the appropriate site and a direct link to the Dashboard as shown here:
The navigation should be much simpler. Can you let me know what you think?

@jeremeyduvall,When you click through to the “new design” for composing a post, as far as I can tell it takes four clicks via the blue “My sites” link to the home page then via the black admin bar to return to the dashboard.
In the original support request, I don’t see any indication that the member wants to visit the My Sites page. Instead, ontheliner appears to be asking for a direct link to the Home page.
From the classic post editor one can reach the Home page with one click in two ways:
1. black navigation bar: website name link
2. admin side bar menu > HomeFrom the BBBBBB (Baby Blue background Boop Boop Boop) post editor there is no direct link to the Home page. This is called improvement. Thanks ontheliner, for giving us one more reason to add to the lengthy list of reasons for not using the new post editor.
On the other hand, returning to the dashboard via the Home page is the same regardless of which post editor you use. Did you mean return to the post editor, ontheliner?

Correct – you would either need to A) use the My Sites link at the top or B) manually enter your URL in the browser address bar.

Finally! I’ve had no way of finding my original post here – over recent days the top page of Support showed no links to older questions and a plain search using the headline above didn’t discover it either. (Foolishly I’d forgotten to bookmark its URL.) I eventually stumbled across it in a Support page I’ve never seen before!
The above comments suggest I’ve landed in a can of worms… Jeremey, thanks – I’ve noticed with each recent visit a baffling series of new pages which make me feel quite lost because they don’t capture my priorities at all (what on earth is “Reader” for – just a list of my own recent posts? – and I never routinely visit the “profile” page. ) The biggest recent nuisance is that logging out has become a two-stage click process which very often doesn’t “take” and you can quickly move on to other work on the computer leaving WP still “live”.
musicdoc1 – You’re right. After login I want to land on Dashboard – this is my nerve centre from which first to inspect yesterday’s “classic” stats, popular posts and the search terms that brought readers in, trackable to their date of publication. Then to read comments. Then to update the blog side bar and create new posts.
I see no use for the “My Sites” page which has cumbersome navigation. Much simpler is the “classic” black admin bar where I can switch blogs through the profile keyhole (except that now it doesn’t lead to a “classic” page but the new one!)
Many own goals here, Jeremey.

In the future, if you visit forums.wordpress.com, you should see “Welcome, [username]” in the top right-hand corner. Clicking that username will direct you to your profile page like this:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/jeremeylduvall
There, you can see all of the forum threads you’ve posted to.
what on earth is “Reader” for – just a list of my own recent posts?
The Reader displays a list of posts from all of the blogs you follow. You can read more about it here:

Thanks, Jeremey, for the link to past forum posts. That comes as news (and also reveals how many queries never result in solutions, such as the time-wasting mystery of how to master “autosave”).
There still seems no solution to going quickly from a post in the “new design” to my dashboard, so I’m sticking with classic design.
Also: the stats summary in new design is utterly meaningless without dates and ability to compare with past stats. Classic stats are invaluable for seeing exactly how data relate to each other and for reaching back over the year.

From the new My Sites page, which you will see through clicking My Sites in the upper right-hand corner of WordPress.com, there are two ways.
One would be to click the “Classic Dashboard” link shown here:
The second would be to click the “Switch to Classic Mode” if you find yourself on the new editor when editing/adding a post/page:

The new stats page does have dates and the ability to compare between days. If you click the particular day within the graph, all of the corresponding numbers should change below. Here’s a screencast demonstrating this functionality:
