Link button in visual editor is grey and I can’t use it
-
The link button in the visual editor is grey (not able to click it), so I’ve been adding links via the “add media” button. However, when I go this route, it doesn’t allow me to have the link open in a new window/tab (which I would like to do). Can’t figure out why the link button is not available/grey. Please help!

Could you please tell me how you did it? I’m having the exact same problem right now.

Hi there,
The links icon is grayed out until you use your mouse to select the anchor text for the link. As soon as you select the anchor text for your link the links icon’s appearance will change and become usable. -

You’re welcome. I recently discovered this myself when Panos brought it to my attention. Previously I was unaware of the grayed out icons in the Visual editor mode as I was using the HTML editor.
Happy blogging. :) -
I’m still having problems in both visual and html. The link is grey in visual (and I’m not sure what you mean by anchor text) and when I use the http pop up in html nothing posts onto my blog. What am I missing?

I have managed to insert the link in visual using the media button but, it also turned every paragraph after the first one into a clickable link. I sorted that out by just deleting and re-posting those paragraphs but, I have to say, the instructions on doing that do not mention that that will happen or how to fix it.

It’s probably happening because first you need to select the exact text you want to turn into a link. It sounds like you accidentally selected ALL of the text.
First select the text and highlight it, then click on the link icon.
