Link Categories have disappeared

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the Rubic theme. This evening when I went to add a link I noticed that my link categories were not appearing so I was unable to select a category and wordpress automatically created a new numeric category. To be clear, when I say the link categories do not appear I mean: A) I do have Categories selected (checked to ON) in the Screen Options for Add New Link screen but B) the categories themselves and their check boxes have disappeared. I have not made any changes of any kind. They simply were no longer visible this evening. Ideas?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We need a link to your blog please.

Sorry. I wrongly assumed the blog link would show up above my member listing in the sidebar here. http:theluminousmiseries.wordpress.com However, the error is not visible on the blog itself as I have removed the automatically generated numeric link category. It only within my Add New Link page in my Dashboard that I see or rather do not see my single category called “Blogs” showing. Thanks for your help.

The numeric category was most likely generated because default link category was gone, but I am at a loss as to why the categories you created would disappear. If you go to Links > Links Categories does anything show up?

One thing I would suggest is to go to settings > writing and set a default link category to one that you actually have right now. If you do not have one, then create one so that you can set that one as a default. That will prevent wordpress from creating another numbered category.

About the only thing you can do is recreate the categories and then reassign them to the links. You could also contact staff and see if there is anything they can do for you, or if they have a clue as to what might have happened. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

“If you go to Links > Links Categories does anything show up?” Yes, “Blogs” shows up.

“go to settings > writing and set a default link category to one that you actually have right now.” Interestingly that is already the case (I doubled checked) and it seems to have no effect.

“About the only thing you can do is recreate the categories and then reassign them to the links.” Onerous but I will try that before contacting support. Thanks for your time in on this.

I deleted the category, created a new one and then associated all links with that one. Now, the new category is displaying in my Add New Category Dashboard screen.
