Link categories not appearing

I’ve created a new link category but it doesn’t appear on the post (it contains a link). The only link category that will appear is ‘Blogroll’. I tried renaming it but that caused it to disappear from the post.

  • Howdy,

Link categories are separate from post categories. If you create a link category, it won’t appear as a post category.

To create a new post category, you can do that directly from the Categories module on the Edit Post screen, or from Posts -> Categories.

Another tip: to quickly add/remove categories for already published posts, you can use Quick Edit on the Posts -> All Posts screen.

Sorry, I haven’t made myself very clear. I’m trying to use a title such as ‘Links’ in the sidebar in place of the name ‘Blogroll’. Using ‘Blogroll’ as the title means that that name, plus the links, appear in the side bar next to a post. Fine, but I don’t want to use the word ‘Blogroll’. I have tried changing the name to ‘Useful Links’ (in the Link Categories window), but then neither the new name, nor the links themselves appear in the side bar. I then tried adding a new link category alongside the Blogroll category, but only the Blogroll link category appeared on the side bar, not the new category (even though it contained a link).

Okay, you’ll need to change the categories of your Links via your Dashboard -> Links page. You can change their category by clicking on the Edit link under the link you’d like to change.

Then, via your Appearance -> Widgets page, you can change the category you’re using to display your links by selecting “Useful Links” from the drop-down menu under your Links Widget.

    That’s great – thank you!
