Link category alignment
-
Hi, I’m wondering why my link categories are not aligned? For example, “archives” is aligned with “recent posts”, “categories”, “blog stats”, etc but the alignment for my links appear to be the opposite – the links instead of the link categories are aligned to “archives”, “recent posts” etc. Why is this so and how can I make it right? I’ve tried deleting and redoing but the alignment is still haywire. By the way, a friend viewed my blog and on her laptop, the alignments appear ok. Why is this so?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. I’m not sure what you mean by “link categories” but the links in your “Categories” widget are out of alignment because you’ve made “Outings” and “School” subcategories of “Josiah”.
From what I can see all of the sub-heads in your Archive / Recent Posts / Blog Stats / etc widgets are aligned / indented to the second letter of the main heading and, from what I can tell, all of the main headings are aligned to each other… which, I think, is how the theme you’ve chosen is supposed to look.
So something like this:
Recent Posts
Visit to the Science Centre
Josiah’s Appetite is BACK!
Josiah’s PrayerCategories
Home Sweet Home
Josiah
Outings
School
ParentingSo from what I can see everything looks normal. Hope it helps a little… let me know if I’ve missed something.

And the formatting didn’t take… sorry gunghomum, please disregard everything between “So something like this” and “So from…”.

Hi! Thx! From my view, “Come and be blessed” and “Gunghomum’s Other Blog” are indented whilst “Good News Singapore” and “fingerprintz” are not. That means, “Good News Singapore” and “fingerprintz” are aligned to “Recent Posts” and “Come and be blessed” and “Gunghomum’s Other blog” are aligned to “Visit to the Science Centre”. Is it only me getting this strange view whilst other viewers to my blog are getting the alignment all right? THX again!

Hi again gunghomum, sorry it took so long for a reply… yes, you’re right. The top widget is slightly out of alignment with the others, I think it’s because it’s a text widget while the others are standard widgets using the standard font size and spacing. Unless you get the CSS Upgrade option — it’s cheap if you know CSS, I don’t think there’s anything you can do about it… as long as you’re using that particular theme. If it’s driving you nuts try another theme, they’re all free and you can always go back to the one you’re using now.

OIC. Thx. Hmmm not too sure what’s the difference between text widget and standard widget tho. Is it only my view tt’s not aligned? Cos my fren visited my blog and she says alignment is ok. N yes, it’s bothering me quite a bit, but I like this theme… =D SIGH….

Oh and do u by any chance know which theme would have this as standard widget instead of text widget? Thx feartheseeds!!!

@gunghomum: As you’re very well aware of, your top widget is the links widget, not a text widget. (A text widget is one in which you write your own arbitrary text or html – you haven’t added any of those.)
And your links and link categories are aligned ok – checked with three different browsers. Perhaps you should try logging out and clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

Aha… “Link category” = blogroll headings. Whoops. Sorry gunghomum, I think I totally messed this one up. At least I made it longer and more difficult than it had to be. I actually forgot what “link categories” meant.
“Come and Be Blessed” looks like there’s an extra indentation, but (IMO) that’s an optical illusion because of the letter “C” over the “G”. Everything else looks fine. If you do the standard “clear your cache” / log out and back in thing and it looks wonky enough that it still bothers you try testing some of the other themes. I’ve found people can have reactions to certain colour combinations, and white font on a green/brown background could be a problem… I find certain themes make it appear as though the sidebar text is floating.
Something you can do is take a “screenshot” and post it, if there’s something physically wrong with your monitor we’d be able to see the misalignment.
Sorry again for the misunderstanding gunghomum.

Thanks everyone! I’ll try what you suggested and hopefully everything will look ok again. Woohoo…some of the stuff you mentioned sound so technical, I need some time to figure them out. =O
