Link displaying erratically as a porn site
-
One of the links on our blog is displaying as a porn site but only to certain users.

Hi there,
When I go to http://stampendous.wordpress.com/ I don’t see anything out of the ordinary. Is the porn content within an advertisement?
Could you please take a screenshot (or ask one of your users to do so) and upload the image to your media library so we can take a look?
-
Jackiedana, we don’t see it either, I have a screenshot from a reader and will upload to our media library.
I have checked the widget and link that it appears to affect and both seem normal, I have cleared my cache to see if I could then see it, but I cannot. We don’t have any PPC advertising on the site, so it shouldn’t reflect viewer preferences. Completely mystified, but very disturbed.

I contacted the customer who emailed us, and he says it’s gone now BUT now it’s showing an ad for augmented breast size. He sent me a larger screen shot in case more info helps, and I’m loading it to our media library as well.

He clicked on the photo (even though I told him not to) and it took him to this site:
[redacted]5or728us_wordpress.com. -
Those ads are not placed on your site by WordPress.com. They are being placed there by software on the user’s computer. Notice the text below that says “Ads not by this site”? These ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that they may have installed in their browser.
These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:

http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/09/14/bloggers-beware-of-adware/In case you were wondering, the wordpress.com part of the URL (which I redacted most of, since they don’t need additional traffic!) is part of the query string for whoever is placing the ads on the site, so they can track where their clicks are coming from. In other words, it’s not us! :)
