Link does not come up in a new window

How do I link my friend’s website to my blog so that it will display with one click?

I have tried adding a link to a friend’s website using the icon in the post box. I fill in the url and the name box, click add link and it displays on my blog as underlined but when I try to click it, http comes up on the new tab and then says that windows explorer cannot display the web page. Help! What am I doing wrong?
