Link doesn't show correct featured image when displaying in Facebook

  Hi,
  When I put up a new blog post, I always tick ‘Publicise’ for Twitter and Facebook. When the link appears on my Facebook page, it is showing the wrong featured image – today when I put up a post, the image showing on Facebook was from a post several weeks ago and had nothing to do with it! I always set the featured image in WordPress, so there is no reason for this (e.g. default or something).
  This has happened more than once and I have had to delete the Facebook post because of this.
  Some kind of glitch?

  Hi Jo – We’ve had some complaints of this recently and we’re looking into it. We’re sending the correct image to Facebook, but Facebook isn’t always displaying it for some reason, so we’re trying to figure out why.

  I’ll keep you posted, and if you want me to double-check your site, please link me to the specific post(s) where Facebook is displaying the wrong image.

  I’ve deleted the Facebook post now.

  Hi Jo – I see that it was pulling the wrong image. I ran the URL for that post in Facebook’s debugger and it pulls the correct image now. If you have this problem in future, that’s a trick you can try – it clears Facebook’s cache.

  Of course, I realize that doesn’t help you if the wrong image already posted through publicize. I’ll let you know if we find out more about why this is happening lately.

  Hi,
  I have tried the above ‘debugger’ and it certainly worked but now Facebook just shows my Gravatar image for The Hazel Tree with any link that I put up, instead of a featured image.
  Any advice would be appreciated!

  Hi Jo – Hmm, when I share your latest post on Facebook now, it offers me the choice of three different photos in the post, but none of them are the featured image. I’ve passed this along to the team that’s working on this, and will keep you updated.

  We made several updates to resolve this issue. If you still encounter issues with newly published posts shared on Facebook, let us know including the link of the post you shared.

  Note that you can also use the Facebook Debugger to update FB’s cache so it uses the correct image and description of your site: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/‎
