link icon de-highlighted

The link icon in new posts is de-highlighted. I tried clearing cache and cookies and removing some plugins. This happened once before but I can’t remember how ti fix it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Could you point me to a URL example where this is occurring? Once I see this in action, I’ll be able to help more!

Of course. Here’s a link from within my WordPress account. I hope it’s what you need.

Thanks for clarifying! Sorry for not understanding your question at first. So, for the link icon to work correctly, you will first need to highlight the text that you want linked. Then, the icon will be clickable.
Here’s an example:
Can you try highlighting some text and see if that makes a difference?

I add links to every post, so I’m familiar with the highlighting before clicking the link. Tonight I noticed the “link” icon was highlighted again until I made a change in the script. It went away?

Well… good grief. You might be right. I thought the link was highlighted before I copied.

You’ll need to highlight text first, which clarifies what text you want to be linked. Otherwise, the link icon will remain grey as the editor isn’t sure what text to hyperlink.
