Link in a FB post – no thumbnail appears

When I add the link to my wordpress website (it’s not a blog) in a post on Facebook there is no thumbnail or heading, just a link. I want to have a thumbnail appear as well as a title and description. I’ve tried to look this up online, but I’m not even sure how to look it up because I don’t know the terminology for this. Can someone direct me to a good tutorial or help page?

Aside from what’s at this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#images-in-publicize we have no control over the images that Facebook chooses to display or when they choose to flush their image caches. We really only send them the URL of the post, and they hunt through that for the excerpt and images to include.
