Link in caption
-
This thread below says that it is possible to have a link in a caption but it does not say how. I’d like to learn. I have often NOT used captions because I didn’t know how to put a link there. Typically a link to a specific Wikipedia entry or the homepage the image came from. Such a function would really be useful.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I would use an HTML table but I don’t know if that’s what Tess is referring to or not. Have you tried contacting her? She has a contact page on here blog.
-
I would use an HTML table. See > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/03/24/align-images-html-tables-for-wordpress-blogs/
-
@TT When I used the Zemanta browser extension Zemanta would put a hyper link in the caption field I think that is what Tess, is referring to is the hyper link method which would have to be manually written as HTML format

universalgeni,
You could try something like this:
http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/08/11/floating-images-with-captions/
the only thing you would need to do is to make the text (for example) My Cabin a link. You would do it like this:
<a href="URL" title="description">My Cabin</a> -
Wow! A lot of possibilities here! I’m glad I opened this thread. Thanks a million guys!
:-D)))

@universalgeni: See code model here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/aligning-images-and-captions?replies=6#post-437992
Where I’ve written “CAPTION_TEXT_HERE”, you can include a link, either by using devblog’s model above, or by highlighting the appropriate word(s) and clicking the link button. -
I say tt is right. The alignment goes out of order. She wrote that in the thread panaghiotisadam is linking to.
-
@universalgeni: tt’s comment is before mine – doesn’t refer to my suggestion.
If you the table code I suggested, you can set the alignment of the image, as well as the alignment of the custom caption in relation to the image, any way you like. But in some themes align=”whatever” won’t work, and you have to use another variant.

This is one of those things that you can make function the first time but not remember. And for all future you’ll have to search and consult your notes in order to do it again. Takes ½ an hour or what feels like it.
Perhaps one day Staff will pull a trick and make the feature available with a click of a button. I think I’ll just wait and hope for that. For the time being I have chosen to put the link in a note as the last line of my post.
:-D)))

For the record, in the theme you’re using images get a border of their own automatically, so if you use the code I suggested, you’ll also have to change the beginning of the image code from this:
img
to this:
img style=”border:none;” -
Also: I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing. I wanted an image with a caption. The caption text was supposed to have a link to a blog or website under it.
It’s useful if for example you have chosen to have a logo as illustration. Then the logo could be click-able and take the reader to the organizations homepage. The text under the image could say “Wikipedia” and take the reader to the organizations Wikipedia entry.
Had the text (caption) only been click-able, that is…
-
If you were to use my method, then you’d do something like this:
<div style="float:left;width:auto;margin:10px 10px 5px 0;"> <img src="PATH-TO-IMG" alt="ALT" title="TITLE" width="IMG-WIDTH" height="IMG-HEIGHT" style="margin: 0; padding: 0;" /> <div style="color:#777;font:normal 80% Arial;margin:5px 10px 0 0;"><a href="URL-HERE">CAPTION HERE</a></div> </div> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit... ... ... -
Yes we’re talking about the same thing. Give me an actual example (image URL and Wikipedia entry URL) and I’ll paste the end result for you. Want it with text-wrap or with no text-wrap?
-
Hi devblog! Sorry for jumping in: universalgeni said “devblogs trick wont work for me”, so I thought I’d suggest an alternative.
-
I guess one could do some editing in MSPaint and write the caption there. Then go to an online site and do some image mapping. If there is a site out there that uses codings permitted by WordPress.com…
