Link in code doesn’t match link in post
-
Hi everyone!
I have inserted a link in one of my posts, and it appears like this in my code tab: http://www.cdbaby.com/offeringband2
However, when I view my post and hover over the link, my blog address is inserted before the link. When I click on the link, I get a “lost” message.

oops…the code didn’t appear the way I pasted it. Let me try that again by putting it in quotes:

Okay, I just saw the tip below the reply box. Let me try backticks:
<a href="www.cdbaby.com/offeringband2"><font color="#ff0000"><strong>here</strong></font></a>. -
Are you aware that wordpress.com blogs are non-commercial blogs? The reasons I’m asking is because your blog has a commercial appearance and you appear to be offering items for sale. We cannot use wordpress.com blogs to drive traffic to 3rd party sites (see section 2, 5th bullet http://wordpress.com/tos/ And, we cannot advertise of wordpress.com blogs http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/

No, I did not realize that. Thank you for helping me understand the rules. After reading the rules you reference, I see that I am allowed one discreet link to Amazon, so I have edited my blog appropriately.
If you were referring to anything else when you say that my blog “has a commercial appearance”, please explain so I can edit as required.
I wouldn’t think the link I am inquiring about (above) violates Section 2 because it’s “…not spam, and does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites, or to further unlawful acts (such as phishing) or mislead recipients as to the source of the material (such as spoofing); “
I’m simply trying to provide visitors to my blog with a link to a resource they might be interested in. Am I misunderstanding this?
Is the link being changed because it appears I am violating a rule?
Thank you timetheif!

For reference, this is a useful FAQ to keep handy for those of us who don’t dip into HTML on a regular basis: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/how-to-write-links/

thesacredpath – thank you for the link also. I always write my posts in LiveWriter and publish from there because it’s so stupid-easy. But I will refer to how-to-write-links next time I get in trouble.
