Link in the title of a post

Add topic to favorites
Hi.

I’ve used Blah quite a bit in the title of posts. Usually it hyper/permalinks to the web page. It hasn’t done in a post called Fencing this week. I’ve check and re checked the coding and it looks right. I’ve changed the web page I was linking to. I’ve changed the permalink/shortlink thing, but that didn’t affect anything either. What else might influence whether a link in the title is followed or not?

My blog site post URL is: http://pleasepresshere.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/fencing/

The link I’d put into the title was: Fencing, but it just goes to my post, not to the website…

OK, here is the thing. WordPress has never allowed links in post titles, or as far as that goes, any HTML other than perhaps an odd case or two where you could put italics or bold on a word in a title.

So in short, you probably found a loophole that has been closed.

Oh! So are you saying they’ve just closed it, but it still works for those done retrospectively?

It would likely work till you opened the post in the editor and then saved it again and then it would revert back to the internal post link.

Post titles can work as external links only in themes that support the Link post format – see here:

Thanks for that link – I’ve been using “Under the infulence” by Spaceperson, and, as I said, it’s let me put links in the title before.

@thesacredpath: So, strangely, 3arn0wl has found a loophole that has been opened, not closed.

You’re welcome. Could you please paste here the exact thing you tried to put in the title? For the code to show up, you need to paste it between backticks.

Ah yes, it’s the strange thing I had discovered here (back when there was no custom menu feature):

Your link won’t work because “Fencing” is a single word. Add a space and it will.
