Link Issues (Something Changed, now must use 'control-click')

    I’ve used WordPress for years and have always included links which could be left-clicked without problem. Recently the link box (highlight the word, click the link icon above) won’t let me open the edit box and check to have the link open another page. More problematic, a simple left click no longer takes users to the linked page, they must use ‘control-click’ or ‘apple-click.’ I’ve looked at links in older articles and they have, in addition to the site address the code ‘target=’_blank’ rel=’noopener noreferrer’ If I add that to the current links, they work, but I have to add that individually every time to each link, which is not practical. What changed? This is a serious problem for me.
