Hello there Pavanraheja,
Thank you for trying to help. I have two sites. Persephone Design is no longer used so I use my business name site – janebaridesign.wordpress.com On 1st May, a person visited my site and deposited their link to my site. I found their link on the bottom right hand side of my statistics page. I also found that this person is now following all my preferred sites too. No other visitor to my blog has deposited a link like this. The link is as if they have completely captured my followed sites. I did not authorise this link to be deposited into my statistics page and I was wondering how I can possibly remove this unauthorised link. Thank you so much from ozpossum. -
What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site you are referring to please?
This is wordpress.COM support. We cannot answer any questions posted here accurately until we have the relevant URL and have confirmed hosting. Note that about 30% of those who post here daily are posting to wrong support forum and the answers to wordpress.COM and WordPress.ORG support questions are not the same.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, support docs and support forums, run different theme versions of themes with the same names, and many people get confused about the two. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. We cannot provide support for sites that are not on our servers. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM. That support is found at http://wordpress.ORG/support/
(3) sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites wordpress.com account page. That support is found at http://jetpack.com/support/
The wordpress.ORG support forums are at http://wordpress.org/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/ -
Is this it https://janebaridesign.wordpress.com?
If yes then read on. Screenshots can be helpful. You can use http://snag.gy/ or http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.
Then type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. Good morning timethief. Yes, that is my site. I am terribly confused about the instructions as I am dyslexic. I will have to sit down and work through your instructions to try and capture a screen shot. Being self taught on the technology does not help either :) Thank you for the information and I will get some help with it this morning.

On 1st May, a person visited my site and deposited their link to my site. I found their link on the bottom right hand side of my statistics page.
No one can access your stats page without you providing them with access to your login information. Nothing can appear on the stats page that the software is not programmed to provide. Will you please read this support doc? https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#referrers
-
Thank you time thief. I have marked the link as spam. No one at all has any access to my site whatsoever. I have never shared anything from WordPress, let alone any other aspect of my computer. The person concerned has dropped a link on the “Clicks” part of the bottom right hand side of the stats page. I clicked on their address and found they have a shop on Etsy. Thank you for the information you have supplied this morning time thief. I will go through all your recommended reading links.
-
No one can enter clicks on your site stats page. That page is a record of which links on your site that were clicked.
Clicks
This stat counts the number of times your readers have clicked on external links that appear on your site. These may be (but are not limited to):
Links you add to your post and page content.
Links placed in comments by your readers.
Links that appear in your blogroll.
Links attached to the names of users who comment on your blog.
Links to media files.
Links to images in a gallery. -
I am now thoroughly confused with this information. I will work through what you have kindly sent me timethief. Thank you so much
-
The bottom line here is no one entered any link on your stats page.
No one was spamming.
You simply do not understand what clicks are and that’s why I posted that part of the support doc above. -
Thank you time thief. I will see about getting a screen shot to post up which shows the link.

I looked up the referrer that deposited the link in my stats page. I found this letter on the net from another person. The link slifty.github.io is the actual referrer on my stats page that referred the person to my site. I know this for a “fact” as they say in the classics ( :) ) because I only had one visitor to my site that day. I was a bit worried when I read this information which is why I sought assistance from WordPress folks.
“As of this morning I started getting a large number of referral from slifty.github.io. This is not typical referral spam, these are actual server calls on my server and not simply GA pings.
The website explains that it is an application that uses the user’s browser to randomly visit a very large number of websites in order to fill your browsing history with a bunch of noise with the goal of protecting the users privacy from their ISP.
So as this is invalid / useless traffic it should be blocked. What is the best way to block this traffic? I am assuming than the ip addresses for this traffic will be different in each case(I have not checked my logs yet). So the referrer will need to be blocked. I wonder if this will start a new whack-a-mole war?”

It’s a weekend so be patient while waiting for Staff to explain this to you.
I typed modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. -
Thank you timethief. I appreciate your effort a lot and will read everything you have sent me. I appreciate your advice.
-
I apologise about the “weekend” issue. I am self employed and work 7 days a week and did not stop to think about weekends at all! Sorry about this.
-
There’s no need to apologize. There are fewer Staff available on weekends. That said, they will get to this thread as soon as they can.
-
Hi there,
So as this is invalid / useless traffic it should be blocked. What is the best way to block this traffic?
It is not possible to block traffic. If your site is public, anyone with an internet connection can visit it. This includes bots.
If you don’t want that link to appear in your referrer stats, you can mark it as spam and it will no longer be counted under your referrers. We also monitor for bot traffic and automatically filter that out from your views and visitors stats, but this doesn’t sound like bot traffic so I don’t think we’ll be able to filter it out completely.

Good morning Kokkieh,
Thank you for this advice. I was really worried when I read where that link came from and what it does. If it is harmless, I won’t bother doing anything at all about it. Thank you so much for your time in this regard Kokkieh.
jane :) -
You’re very welcome :)
I also want to repeat what @timethief said above – no one can insert links into your stats page, not even you, so nothing appearing there would indicate that your site is at risk. If a link appears there, it means we’re tracking it, either because someone reached your site via that link or because someone clicked on that link appearing on your site.
I hope that clarifies things for you.
