Link Outline appears even though NO LINK selected
-
I’m trying to post but every photo I add has a bright purple link outline around it even though I’ve selected None as the link target and removed None from the link box. What gives?

Using the visual editor, the add image feature (when used) opens up a pop-up box that lets you fill in the image url, the alignment and the size. Below those options are the choices “border” horizontal space and vertical space. If you place a ‘0’ in the ‘border’ option, that bright purple outline will go away. The bright purple must be your link color and unless you tell it no border, it will by default, show a border even if you have made no link.
The vertical and horizontal space choices allow you to assign a pixel width of whitespace around your images, so that there is a visually appealing amount of space between your image and the text. I usually use 3 or 4 for that.
Of course, you can use the html editor too, and add in all that information by hand, but it’s quicker to use the visual editor. If using the html, you need to show within your brackets for the image addition… hspace=”3″ vspace=”3″ border=”0″
Hope that helps!

If you’re talking about your blog at http://brianmclernon.wordpress.com/ I don’t see the behavior you describe in the post itself. I’m using FF as my browser and also checked in IE6.
Nice tie-in to your photography site btw.

lol justjennifer, I hadn’t even looked at the blog. Knowing exactly why that border happens, I hadn’t bothered to go see if it was really there. Oh well, at least others who are having that problem will hopefully find this as a search and it will help them.

Thanks fracas and jennifer but I am talking about preview mode. It’s been a month since I posted (bad form, I know!) and I don’t remember this behavior happening. I’m uploading photos from my hard drive, not a URL so I am using the toolbar that says “Add Media” not the tree icon. Should I use the tree icon with the controls fracas states? What would be the URL of photos on my computer? (sorry if that’s a dumb question!)-Brian

I also upload from my hard drive. What I meant was that I uplaod using the add media tool, but then I take the url of the image where it is now in my blog’s directory, and I then use the add image icon in the visual editor to insert it into my post. All of the directions in my earlier comment here then apply. I always add images this way, and I have never had a problem with the preview mode showing something other than what the actual post looks like.
I did go visit your blog after justjennifer replied, and I didn’t see any borders in your actual images either.
The post you asked for help is dated today, and since today I don’t see the purple borders you refer to, why don’t you try add images the way I suggested and see if your preview mode problem goes away?
I’m not sure why you’d be seeing that in preview when the actual post shows no problem. Very nice looking blog though.

If it’s the Visual Editor preview window, ignore it. It isn’t displaying how your post will display on publishing it. Your best bet would be to click on “Preview this Post” which should open a new tab or window and show you what the post is REALLY going to look like when published.

Also, as far as I know, the Visual Editor “preview window” doesn’t take your theme’s custom style sheet into account. Actually, this is true for every theme here on wp.com, custom or not. If you want to play with the CSS, you have to use the HTML Editor, not the Visual Editor.

Many thanks you two! Check the blog now! A huge help. So now I just upload all the photos first, then copy and paste the URLs. Right? Thanks again!
