Link paths

    Hi, thank you for WordPress!

I’m trying to figure out how to set custom paths for post links. The site will have multiple authors posting. The main page will list every authors’ posts chronologically, the latest post will be up top, scrolling down followed by the previous posts.

When clicking on a post, I would like it to go to that authors blog posts, that are listed in chronological order, rather than that posts single page.

    Is that possible?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there!

Unfortunately this functionality does not exist. There are a few things that you can use to try and work around it though. I would suggest looking into using shortcodes to potentially build a posts page the way you would like. This won’t be exactly what you were trying to achieve but hopefully it will help you come up with a way of making this work.

The page with all of the authors posts can be found here: https://foogro.wordpress.com/author/siriusmate/. You only need to replace the username at the end of that link to view a different user.

I hope this helps, feel free to reply back if you have more questions.

    Cheers,

    Tony

    Hi,

As Tony points out, wordpress.com doesn’t allow you to control the structure of the page and post links. I like his suggestion about using a shortcode for displaying posts: it allows you to display posts by Author and probably gives you quite a bit of flexibility in terms of placement.

You might also consider using the Author widget: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/authors-widget/
This is probably easier to use, but I’m not sure it will give you the layout you want.

In the end, if you want control over the structure of your page/post links, you can do that using wordpress.org on a self-hosted site. (You’d have to weigh the tradeoffs.)

Thank you for the prompt replies folks. I also have WordPress on my server. I was able to do the custom url solution. I wish there was a way to automatically do that, meaning whenever a new post is posted on the main wall, its link would be automatically the authors “timeline instead of the post itself. It seems as there might be a way to do it in php editor itself. Now just going to have to learn php :) Thank you again!!!

btw., I used the “Page links to” plugin.
