Link posts

Something has changed in my dashboard where my “linked” articles, ones that I link to that I’ve written for my paper, are no longer “linking.” My link is not appearing nor is the short intro paragraph of the original article. This started happening after your most recent change where the short menu no longer offered link posts.

I’ve tried using the advanced options, picking the link format, but the finished product is still leaving out the link and the paragraph. What’s going on?

Hey there! I’m looking into this issue for you.

Could you please send me the link to a post or page that is displaying an incorrect/broken link? Direct me where to find the link on the page.

Also, tell me what you’re hoping will appear instead.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Okay, so I’m not able to do screenshots…Hmmm. Well, when I’ve put the link at the top of my article, i.e. under the title and on the first line of the post – like I’ve always done – after I’ve saved it, the link and the first paragraph of the article are gone.

In the past I’ve used links to all my articles on the paper, link to past example here – Under the Dome Infestation Barbie Saves the Day (Recap/Review)

Until recently, I’ve had no issue, but since the change to the “beep, beep boop” cutsey thing which shows up when adding a new post to the new icon, at the top, the link bit appears to be broken or removed.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there, again!

So — I took a look at the past post that you say is working as it should:
    http://mikesfilmtalk.com/2014/07/08/under-the-dome-infestation-barbie-saves-the-day-recapreview/

And I took a look at two empty draft posts that you have saved. Are you able to add your link by going directly to this link:
    https://mikesfilmtalk.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=11546&action=edit

If this doesn’t work, please try to clear your cache, sign into your WordPress.com account, and attempt to add a link to a Post. Because the version of WordPress.com was recently updated, it’s possible that we need to clear your cache of anything that got saved in your browser during the transition.

Please let me know how this goes. We’ll get to the bottom of this asap, so you can function fully again. Thanks for the patience.

    Hi Robyn,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back in touch, I was covering the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas all four days and was rushed off my feet! I have finally gotten it to “perform” properly.

However, it takes a combination of entering text “in text mode” then popping over to “visual,” then popping back to text. A little skew-whiffy and a bit soggy if you’re tired, but it can now publish links.

I did try the things suggested and they made no difference. It was only “by mistake” that I found bouncing between visual and text actually saved my post properly. Not, in essence, very user friendly, IMHO.

Still, I want to thank you for your help and again I apologise for taking so long to respond to your response!

    Cheers!

Good to hear back from you!

I’m so glad you figured out a solution.

Do you copy and paste from another document? Or type directly into your post editor? If you are pasting, I suggest pasting into the Text tab, going to Visual, and then adding your links and formatting. Then, you won’t have to go back and forth over and over again.

I hope things continue to function well for you on your site. If you have any other issues, please let us know! Live free and prosper ;)

Thanks! That gives me a way to stop all that hopping back and forth! Cheers! Yes indeed! Live long and prosper! LOL
