Link Problem
-
Hi Forum,
I have a problem with making a link that’s placed within a post. Within the edit post work area I successfully highlight ‘The Story’ and use the link dialogue box to assign the relevant external website’s URL. I update but then depending on which method I use to view the result ‘live’ two different problems occur.
1) As can be seen by this example http://shaunhines.wordpress.com/category/story-telling-events/ the link is not operational. This is what happens if I navigate to the blog using the Telling Tales title at the top of my wordpress.com screen.
2) If I choose the View Post option in the edit post work area, the link is live and does work however, the titles of the other headings that reside in the category drop down menu appear 4 times in the actual post. I did a screen grab as I thought I could upload onto the forum but it seems that you can’t.
Any assistance greatly appreciated and sincere thanks in advance…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re talking in 1) about a Category page. In 2) you’re talking about the blog post. Whether excerpts or whole posts are shown in a category page depends on the theme. Just change themes to one that displays full posts.

Hi Raincoaster and thanks for your help but I don’t understand.
The top menu shows all the pages that I have designed, today I composed three posts
The category widget has a drop down menu that navigates to these posts not to the photo pages.
In the Edit Post work area I am allowed (by the software) to highlight certain words and turn these into links. The View Post option, that sits within the same work area, confirms that the links are there and work. It also shows line breaks that I have used, neither of these factors are showing up on the live site.
On consultation with my lecturer I changed from an original theme to this one which I prefer and visually works well.
Thanks again for your time and assistance, much appreciated.

Hi panaghiotisadam for the link to the relevant post.
What bad news though, shouldn’t this be an option i.e. being able to choose whether you want full posts or not? It seems strange that the edit post allows you to be mislead, by allowing me to add links and format text, just to strip it out.
If I didn’t want to change the theme, can you think of another option? I’m sure you understand what I’m attempting to do :-) If I do have to change themes can you think of one off the top of your head that’s similar to Twenty Ten with regards to visuals and layout?
Many thanks again and best wishes…

re: the excerpt function
Make sure your excerpt module is visible. If not, go to the upper right of your screen and click “screen options.” Tick “screen options” to activate it.
Switch to the HTML editor and copy your post. Paste that into the excerpt module. Update.
Your links and formatting should now work on archive and category pages.(note that shortlinks don’t work in excerpts: for instance YouTube won’t be active)

Hi 1Tess and many thanks for the advice.
I tried exactly what you suggested and it works. Such a relief as I had spent so much time working with the Twenty Ten theme and didn’t really want to change it (especially having spent ages trawling through the other options and not finding anything appropriate).
As you can see from this link: http://shaunhines.wordpress.com/category/story-telling-events/ there’s a ‘Continue Reading’ link, is there any way of disabling this? I just want to remove anything that’s surplus to requirements.
Thanks again for your time and assistance, I can now get back to trying to finish the site for a ‘soft launch’ tomorrow.
Best wishes…
