Link should open in an extra tab

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear WordPress Team,

    I have a question, is it possible if I add a link that in my article opens in an extra tab/window?
    Because at the moment if my readers click on a link it will open in the same tab and they need to go back again to my blog. Is it possible to change that?

    Thanks for your help,
    Jennifer

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey Jennifer,

    There are two ways of doing this.

    The easiest way is to click “Open link in a new window/tab” when you’re adding the link to your text as shown here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#creating-links

    Another way to do this would be to edit the HTML code in the Text Editor. When you add a link, you will see the following:

    <a href="http://facebook.com";>Your text</a>

    Just add in target=_blank as shown here:

    <a href="http://facebook.com" target="_blank";>Your text</a>

    Please let me know if you need anything else!

    It worked jeremey thank you !

    One more question, I wanna add a Shoppinglist for my readers, with photos they can click on and then they gonna be forwarded to the website of the online shop where they can buy the item.
    Something like I saw all the way at the end from this blogger
    http://www.neginmirsalehi.com/season-specific/

    Is that possible with wordpress? If yes could you explain me how please?

    Thanks before

    Hey Jennifer,

    The easiest way to do that would actually just be to insert the images like normal and link them to a custom URL following the instructions here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-settings/#within-posts

    Just change the “Link to” to a custom URL and input the URL there for each image. Provided the images are small enough, they should fit side by side like you mentioned.

    Give that a shot! If you run into any trouble or they don’t line-up the way you’re hoping they will, let me know.

    Hi Jeremey, it workes withthe pictures and adding the link to it, but the problem is that they wont be in one line, doesnt matter how small i make them. They will be shown always under each other.. Can you help me with that? I wanna make it in one row. I tried to make a galllery, than its in one row only problem is that if you click on you will only see the picture and cant click on the link ..

    Hey Jennifer,

    Can you point me to the individual post or page you’re referring to? I’d like to see this in action so we can determine the best way to get them on one line!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Jeremey,

    I tried it one post, check this link
    http://jenniferbachdim.com/2014/08/07/stripes/

    after my first Outfit I try to add a Shoppinglist, the pictures are all small and should fit in one row. If I edit them it’s fine only if I few my actual site it appears like that, under each other.
    Do you know why?

    Hey Jennifer,

    One solution would be to format the images as a table. For example, could you click on over to the Text Editor and replace your current shopping list with the following text?

    <table>
    <tr>
    <td>
    <p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.lookbookstore.co/products/sweetheart-stripe-skater-dress" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone wp-image-1270" src="http://jenniferbachdim.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/lookbookstore1.jpg?w=210" alt="lookbookstore1" width="100" height="143" /></a></td>
    <td><a href="http://www.lookbookstore.co/products/stripe-bodycon-dress" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone wp-image-1271" src="http://jenniferbachdim.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/lookbookstore2.jpg?w=209" alt="lookbookstore2" width="100" height="143" /></a> </td>
    <td><a href="http://www.lookbookstore.co/products/wrap-lace-headband-red" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone wp-image-1272" src="http://jenniferbachdim.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/lookbookstore3.jpg?w=210" alt="lookbookstore3" width="100" height="143" /></a> </td>
    <td><a href="http://www.senso.com.au/category/Shoes/Ava-I-1482" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone wp-image-1273" src="http://jenniferbachdim.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/senseo1.jpg?w=255" alt="senseo1" width="100" height="117" /></a></td>
    <td><a href="http://www.senso.com.au/category/Shoes/Ava-IV-" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone wp-image-1274" src="http://jenniferbachdim.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/senseo2.jpg?w=255" alt="senseo2" width="100" height="117" /></a></p></td>
    </tr>
    </table>

    That contains the same images, but they’re separated out into “cells” much like a table in Excel so they’ll sit next to each other.

    Let’s give that a shot and see if it creates the look you’re going for!

    Thanks Jeremey its working.
    Only one more question, is it possible that they are in one line but without the rectangle around the images?

  • Unknown's avatar

    And Jeremey is this possible?
    If you scroll over the images with your mouse, that then a text appears?
    Because now I saw I can add a text, but then the text will stand there always. I don’t like that so much. But it would be great if its possible like I said before.If you scroll over it with your mouse that then the text appears? Do you know what I mean :) ?

    Hey Jennifer,

    Please see below!

    Only one more question, is it possible that they are in one line but without the rectangle around the images?

    Yep! Just change all of the opening td tags from:

    <td>

    To:

    <td style="border:none;">

    But it would be great if its possible like I said before.If you scroll over it with your mouse that then the text appears?

    When you go to edit an image, you should see a field for “Image Title Attribute” under “Advanced Options”. If you place the text there, it will appear on hover.

  • Unknown's avatar

    thank you Jeremey worked out perfect with the borders.

    I edit the picture as well and fill in “Image Title Attribute”but so far I can see on my laptop its not working. Could you check if the text appears if you scroll over the pictures? Please let me know. Thanks so much

    Is that what you’re experiencing as well?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Oh perfect thank you, because I cant see it. I think there is still something wrong with my safari eventhough I reset everything.
    But great that it works, thanks so much Jeremey.
